What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Team Dryland Coach - Botetourt YMCA position at YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge?
The swim team dryland coach will communicate effectively and provide leadership in the instructional area of competitive aquatics according to the YMCA aquatic policy while maintaining a safe environment. The swim team dryland coach will follow the YMCA philosophy of developing a healthy spirit, mind and body for themselves and for others while upholding and supporting the mission and four core values of the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Be able to verbally communicate specific exercises that are developed for workout, and to be able to demonstrate exercises with proper form for swimmers to visibly learn.
Assist with creating workouts that will increase enhance range of motion, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility of each swimmer.
Provide alternative exercises based on swimmer’s abilities.
Attend daily practices.
Communicate clearly, effectively, efficiently with swimmers, parents, and colleagues.
Provide a safe and effective practice.
Provide feedback about technique when performing specific exercises that will help utilize the correct muscle group.
Be open and receptive to hearing feedback from parents and Director of Competitive Swimming and coaches.
No certifications required, however any personal training certification, or wellness certifications preferred. If applicant has any certifications, they must maintain any CPR/AED, first aid, or wellness certifications
Follow facility EAP in event of an emergency.
Wear clothes that you can active to demonstrate any moves that are being taught.
Customer Service
- Arrive on time to perform assigned duties.
- Be courteous and give sincere attention to participants and parents.
- Promote YMCA swimming and other programs.
- Promote the character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Organization and Implementation
- Develop lesson plans for each of the classes assigned.
- Adhere to all facility rules and policies.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training events.
- Know and be ready to implement emergency procedures.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Stand for extended period of time
- Communicate verbally including projecting voice across distance
- Ability to step, stand, sit, push, pull, stretch, lift and squat
- Ability to solve practical problems
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years of age
*Experience with working with children preferred.
*Hourly rate is based on experience and skills brought to the position.
