What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wellness Staff - Tanglewood YMCA position at YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge?
Supervise and maintain all aspects of the Wellness center and related areas; assist the branch in membership development and retention through quality leadership and continuous follow up.
- Interpret, communicate, and promote Y mission, goals, and objectives to department employees, volunteer leaders, members, and the community.
- Support branch/department initiatives related to membership retention and Annual Giving goals.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with members and staff.
- Promote all Y programs as assigned by the Wellness Director/Coordinator.
- Ensure all Wellness center etiquette is followed.
- Ensure Wellness center and related facilities are clean, safe and organized.
- Conduct wellness related appointments with members.
- Provide continuous supervision, education and encouragement to all members in accordance with YMCA of the USA guidelines.
- Encourage YMCA members to meet their own determined wellness goals through regular contact, incentive programs and relationship development. Engage with members when not in appointments.
- Resolve conflicts/issues with members.
- Attend all required meetings/other related trainings.
- Comply with all policies as outlined in the Wellness Staff Handbook and/or provided by the Wellness Director/Coordinator.
- Maintain certifications as required by the position.
- Clean equipment regularly; troubleshoot equipment issues and report problems with equipment to Wellness Director/Coordinator.
- All other duties as assigned
ACCOUNTABILITY
The wellness coach will communicate and enforce all etiquette rules and policies of the YMCA to individuals using the facility, keeping within the framework of the YMCA of Virginia’s Blue Ridge purpose, policies and goals. Report to the Wellness Director/Coordinator.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
As we continue to progress in our quest for excellent customer/member service and relationship building, the focus on staff performance is critical. A significant part of all job performance will be related to the specific behavior that staff are to exhibit on a daily basis. These indices will be included in all performance feedback and merit raises.
All staff are relationship builders in their particular program or service area and they will:
- Welcome and greet each member in a pleasant and friendly manner (i.e., greet, smile and make eye contact);
- Be open and actively listen to questions, concerns and feelings of members and staff, dealing with them honestly, respectfully and positively (“Yes, I can help you; Yes, I hear your concern; Yes, I can tell you about that class”; etc.);
- Handle multiple tasks in a calm and responsible way always affirming the member (e.g., “sure, give me one moment and I can go find what you need.”);
- Build member relationships by showing interest, caring and responsiveness (e.g., “Let me find out and get back to you before you leave today.”); and
- Continuously inquire regarding the quality of member visits, offering additional activities/programs that may be of interest to the member (e.g., “Did you know about our free Fit Start program?”).
REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to recognize and respond to unsafe situations. Demonstrate and assist with exercises. May be required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand and walk for long periods of time. |
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in wellness or related field is preferred. On the job training for Fit Starts provided.
- Must hold and maintain current CPR & AED certification
