Group Leader (Y Scholars Afterschool Program)

You can make a difference in our education system! Our YMCA's Y Scholars Program is seeking Group Leaders to work with youth (K-8th Grade) for the 2024-2025 school year.

Group Leaders start in August and end in June. As a part-time Group Leader, your typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 1:00pm-6:00pm (with a 12:30pm start on Wednesdays).

You will be assigned to work at an elementary school site in:

• Richmond
• San Pablo
• Tara Hills
• El Sobrante

Compensation: $22/hour (part-time, non-exempt) YMCA Gym Membership!

You will work with the Y team's Site Coordinator to provide enrichment opportunities to the kids in our Y Scholars Program. Be willing to learn. About the YMCA Y Scholars Program
We work with schools in West Contra Costa and Oakland to create afterschool programming that focus on student enrichment in creativity, academic, and physical play. Together, we guide underserved children and families to reach their full potential.

Your Leadership Responsibilities

• Supervise groups of 15-20 students
• Plan lessons and lead daily activities (academic, enrichment, or physical)
• Record and track attendance
• Collaborate with team to create a clean and safe learning environment

Your Qualifications:

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have completed 48 college units or passed the Instructional Aid (IA) Exam
• (We will offer IA Exam if the above is not met.)
• Pass DOJ/FBI criminal background check
• Have CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 30 days of hire

• Regular School Year: Ideal candidates are able to work 1pm-6pm, Monday-Friday. Because we are an afterschool program, you must be able to work afternoons and into the early evenings.
