Assistant Swim Team Coach-Certified

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Head Swim Coach, the Assistant Swim Coach will directly facilitate all recreational aquatics programs including, but not limited to Y Swim League, Y Swim Clinic, Masters Swim League, and Water Polo League at all the aquatic’s facilities of the YMCA of South Florida. The Assistant Swim Coach will also monitor the participants for safety and serve all member and non-members of the YMCA in accordance with the purposes and policies of the association.

Essential Functions / Job Duties:
• The Assistant Swim Coach will partner with the Head Swim Coach to oversee the day-to-day management of the recreational swim programs including all swim meet administrative functions and insure all that branch location swim team members are entered in swim meets with proper events.
• Together with the Head Swim Coach, the Assistant Swim Coach will schedule and run regular coaches’ meetings. Also, coordinate seasonal practice plans & workout schedules; teach stroke analysis, drills & techniques; be familiarity with current coaching trends and supervise all assistant coaches.
• Assistant Swim Coach will help the Head Swim Coach to implement new aquatics programs and be responsible for all participant’s recruitment, retention, program carryout and administrative tasks associated with the swim programs.
• The Assistant Swim Coach will help the Head Swim Coach provide member services and promote the swim team program; communicate as necessary with parents and other coaches regarding assignments, swimmer progress, and upcoming events
• Assistant Swim Coach will meet with Head Swim Coach regarding revenues and expenses for all competitive programs. Assistant Swim Coach will work within the guidelines covered in the annual budget.
• Assistant Swim Coach is part of the YMCA Aquatic Leadership Team; therefore, they are aware of all activities and events that encompass Aquatic programing.
• The Assistant Swim Coach will help the Head Swim Coach in the development of the feeder program and recruitment strategy to ensure continuous growth of team.
• The Assistant Swim Coach shall attend swim meets as scheduled and assist with preparation of all special events relating to swim team.
• All other functions deemed necessary.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities / Position Requirements:
• High School Diploma and / or GED.
• Coaching skills should include stroke analysis, familiarity with current coaching trends, use of video, dry land training and swimmer motivation
• Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
• Ability to make decisions under pressure; good judgment.
• Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
• Excellent customer service skills; and an attitude of professionalism and respect
• Ability to interact well with individuals at all levels (e.g. parents, staff, management, and YMCA Board of Directors).
• Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
• Ability to work irregular hours (e.g. weeknights and weekends).
• Computer literate; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, e-mail and Internet.
• Working Knowledge of Team Unify software is a prerequisite.
• Bilingual, English and Spanish, a plus.

Certifications:
• Current CPR certification (For the Professional Rescuer, or Healthcare Provider).
• Current First Aid certification.
• AED Training certification.
• YUSA & or USA Swimming Certified Coach.
• YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certification

Other Duties as Assigned Hours: Head Swim Coach and / or AED of Aquatics will determine Hours. Hours are not guaranteed as a set per week, but will fluctuate depending on pool schedule, practice schedule, swim meets, number of participants, and other staff.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Primary works in an outdoor environment, however occasionally visits indoor program sites.
• While performing the duties of this position, the employee travels by automobile and is exposed to changing weather conditions.
• Will be required to drive often for meetings, swim meets and other work-related duties.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to success perform the essential functions of this job. Being in good physical health with full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Occasionally requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
• Ability to lift / move set up and store equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Also, needs to be able to demonstrate the specific skills to show technical proficiency in life guarding rescue techniques.
• Must be able to swim 500 yards/meters non-stop and tread water for two minutes without using hands. Must be able to hear without aid and see victims.
