Job Description
The Director of Youth Development Programming is the leader in the design, programming, and administration of the MDI YMCA's childcare programs including current programming of our one preschool classroom, afterschool program, and summer camp with support from the Senior Director. The Director initiates and manages the hiring, onboarding training, supervising, and managing of year-round and seasonal childcare staff for the three groups of staff, including preschool, afterschool, and summer camp. The Director will work closely with the senior leadership team in day-to-day and long-term planning and managing, including operating budget (revenue and expense) controls, projections, and goals for the camp and childcare budgets. The Director will oversee and manage the childcare license and help our physical spaces and campus as well as staff to meet licensing regulations.
Qualifications
Three or more years experience (or closely related) in childcare or related programs.
Skills in supervision, budget management, and project management.
Essential Functions
Current programs include preschool and afterschool programs, No-School Care, Vacation Camp Days, and Youth Development Activities / Events ( such as Healthy Kids Day, Easter Egg Hunt / Swim, Holiday, Halloween Parties, etc). and Summer Camps.
Designs, programs, and administrates childcare programs at the MDI YMCA.
Thoughtfully planned childcare programming, curriculum planning, Maine state child law and regulation, and best practices in child development.
Plan and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with the Y's values.
Adhere to program standards including safety.
Follow Y policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
Work closely with Senior Staff with the State of Maine licensing / MRTQ representative(s).
Participate in, and organize as needed, and direct all required training including for staff ( preschool, afterschool teams, and summer camp counselors)
The Director supervises and schedules childcare staff and provides direct service ( in childcare ratio ) when needed.
Initiates and oversees the hiring, onboarding training, supervising, and managing of year-round and seasonal childcare and camp staff in conjunction with the Senior Director.
Informal networking and formal collaborations with local partners for programming and professional development support.
Performs formal and informal observation and annual and periodic performance reviews for all childcare staff.
The Director will work closely with the senior leadership team in day-to-day and long-term planning and managing, including operating budget (revenue and expense) controls, projections, and goals.
Prepare annual operating budget and revenue and expense forecasts as required, working closely with the Senior Director and Chief Executive Officer.
Participate in staff meetings and fundraisers ( some being outside of a normal business day and / or on weekends), and coordinate parent meetings, and childcare staff meetings as needed.
Actively participate in training as required and needed and lead / guide the youth development staff with required and enrichment training.
Plan / shop for coordinated preparation of healthy snack offerings, particularly for the Afterschool Program.

Required Certifications
CPR, First Aid, and AED Certifications are required within 30 days of employment.
Ability and current license to drive and willingness to drive the Y bus / van.
DHHS Fingerprinting and Enrollment in Maine Roads to Quality MRTQ system and Health & Safety Orientation upon hire.
Ability to respond to safety and emergencies.
Plan time off outside of the 10 weeks of summer camp staff training and summer camp weeks.
