Job Description

The District Executive Director is a key role within Florida’s First Coast YMCA with an opportunity to be innovative and make a difference by expanding the Y’s footprint within the community.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to direct strategic planning efforts and develop the annual operating plans of three YMCA branches in Clay and Baker Counties in Florida. Located in Northeast Florida, Clay and Baker Counties are a short commute from Jacksonville, FL.

Clay County is the home of the Dye Clay Family YMCA (34,000 square feet) located in Orange Park, FL and the Barco-Newton Family YMCA (37,845 square feet) located in Fleming Island, FL. Both locations feature state-of-the-art strength and cardio equipment, free weights, two group exercise studios, cycle studio, indoor basketball gymnasium and KidZone. Daystar, a facility for people with developmental disabilities, is also uniquely available at these two locations.

The Dye Clay Y also boasts an 8-lane, 25-yard seasonal outdoor pool, Esports lab, camp building and a family adventure center. Also available at the Barco-Newton Y is a 6-lane, year-round, outdoor heated pool. Nearby, the Plantation Sports Complex, managed through partnership with Clay County and the YMCA of Florida's First Coast, features athletic fields, restrooms and a concession area, which have been valuable assets to our growing youth sports programming in the area.

Additionally, our Before & Afterschool program is offered at all 26 elementary schools in the county, with Y Reads and Summer Day Camp also offered at on- and off-site locations.

Baker County includes an 8-lane seasonal pool and offers youth, teen, and active older adult programming.

Purpose

Accountable for staff development, board development, fiscal management, and revenue generation including fund development. Growth and expansion of the major revenue drivers which include membership and programs. The District Executive Director will invest significant time in building and strengthening relationships in the community resulting in collaborations and ultimately greater impact in the community.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with minimum of five to eight years’ experience managing staff and operations, preferably a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency. Experience managing operations outside of the non-profit sector will be considered.

A proven record of successful leadership in the areas of staff development, fiscal management, membership development, program planning and innovation, facility/property management, fund development, strategic planning and community collaboration.

Experience leading a regional territory a plus.

YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader Certification desired.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.

A high level of professionalism is a must.

Commitment to character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

Ability to direct total operations through volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of branch.

Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience working with diverse populations.

CPR and First Aid certifications required.

Essential Functions

Leads and supervises (Barco Newton and has oversight of Dye Clay and Baker County).

Implements Association membership strategies that support recruitment of new members and retention of existing members.

Creates a member-focused culture and models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

Fosters a climate of innovation and resolves problems to ensure member satisfaction.

Develops long-range plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall Y objectives. Monitors the achievements of these objectives and exercises appropriate action to assure the achievements of the objectives are of the highest quality programs and services.

Provides leadership to the Advisory Board and related committees.

Delivers leadership to and is accountable for achieving annual support campaign, (Annual Giving), special events goals, and capital campaign.

Represents and promotes the Y in the local community by developing positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.

Recruits, hires, trains, develops, and leads employees and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates employees’ performance. Develops strategies to motivate employees and achieve goals. Ensures safety, cleanliness and function of all related facilities and equipment.

Ensures all program operations are consistent with association procedures, including emergency, insurance, accident, purchasing, personnel, accounting and other administrative systems.

Develops, manages, and monitors center operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Initiates and manages adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.

Incorporates character development within the activities of the Y

Assists in all areas, project teams, and duties as assigned by supervisor.
