The Y is a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening our community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Fitness Center Director will lead and manage the operations of our fitness center. This role is responsible for the direct oversight of the fitness department including fitness center floor staff, personal trainers, massage therapists, and group exercise instructors, while managing the operations and budget for the department. The Fitness Center Director will ensure that our YMCA provides an exceptional fitness experience for our members. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining fitness equipment and ensuring that the overall gym facility is in excellent condition to support the health and safety of all members.
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Requires training, certifications or experience with group exercise, program development, YMCA fitness programs or YMCA specialist training.
- Ability to direct programs through supervisor of volunteers and staff, developing and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, program development and fundraising.
- Three years or more of staff supervision experience.
- Requires knowledge of computer software applications and hardware. Must have a working knowledge of Windows Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with diverse populations preferred.
- Responsible for the Wellness Department including supervision of staff, programs, and budget responsibilities.
- Direct Supervision of all group exercise instructors.
- Responsible for the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, supervision, recognition, and terminations for all Wellness staff.
- Ensure all group exercise instructors are in compliance with the minimum education, certification, and/or continuing education requirements of the department.
- Oversee general management, cleanliness, and upkeep of the group exercise and spinning studios, fitness center and related equipment.
- Work with the Marketing department to provide deliverables needed to successfully market programming.
- Supervise floor staff in the fitness department ensuring that the fitness center is adequately staffed to answer or address any member concerns.
- Execute wellness staff meetings and continuing education programs for personal trainers and wellness floor staff.
- Teach or lead classes in the wellness department and ready to jump in as a substitute instructor.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance ensuring a timely manner or repair of equipment.
- Responsible for New Member Orientation program including schedule creation, facilitation, providing orientations and follow up as needed for members. Serve as the primary contact for all fitness programming including scheduling and leading exercise programs.
- Develop, monitor, and achieve Wellness budget goals annually including the responsibility of revenue and expenditures.
- Participate as requested on any branch committees or meetings.
- Ensure all fitness center programs and services comply with YMCA policies, safety standards, and best practices.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
