What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pilates Reformer position at YMCA?
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening
community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Health
and Wellness Director, the Personal Trainer Lead will assist with promotion, coordination, and evaluation of the
following areas: personal training, group exercise, and health and wellness initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist the Director in planning and implementing Pilates reformer related programs and initiatives.
2. Conduct pilates reformer group and personal training sessions, demos and wellness consultations for
YMCA members, as assigned by supervisor.
3. Leads the implementation of strategies and initiatives to increase program participation, member
retention and pilates reformer revenue.
4. Assist Director with training new instructors.
5. Provides trainers and instructors with feedback, coaching, guidance, and support in any areas pertaining
to training methods, safety, technique, form, and pilates reformer member acquisition & retention.
6. Assist Director with maintenance of program statistics such as participation and attendance.
7. Assist Director with maintenance of staff records in accordance with any and all regulatory agencies and
the YMCA.
8. Assist with monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness and program development strategies.
9. Assist with maintenance of monthly status report data, as needed by supervisor.
10. Assist with program scheduling and member registrations, as needed by supervisor.
11. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and
community inquiries and complaints, as assigned by supervisor.
12. Track assigned members’ individual adherence and take appropriate action to motivate members to
continue their YMCA membership and exercise adherence.
13. Attend appropriate and required training offered by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio.
14. Attend regular scheduled Leadership Team meetings.

15. Assist with uniform ordering for Pilates Reformer staff.
16. Assist with event and program coordination of YMCA sponsors and YMCA staff as assigned by supervisor.
17. Follow systems, practices, and training related to risk management and safety of participants and staff
and follow incident report procedures and policies.
18. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● A 4 year college degree in a health related field is preferred. Will accept equal number of years of
experience in lieu of college degree.
● Requires 1-2 years experience managing or coordinating pilates reformer programs preferred.
● Must have a Pilates Reformer certification from one of the following certifying bodies: Stott Pilates,
Power Pilates, Peak Pilates, Basi Pilates, Balanced Body, Polestar Pilates, Fletcher Pilates, Romana’s
Pilates.
● A National Personal Training or Strength Training certification from one of the following certifying bodies
is preferred: ACE, ACSM, NSCA, IDEA, NETA, AFAA, Cooper’s IAR, ISSA, NASM, NPTI, NFPT, AFPA,
IFPA, NSCF, NESTA or any other certification which obtain accreditation from the National Commission
for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or National Fitness Board of Examiners (NFBE) and must be a “live”
certification.
● Have knowledge of fitness related research and program design including basic anatomy, physiology,
exercise principles and behavior change methods.
● Certifications required within the first week of hire: Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications.
● Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as
CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
● Must obtain YMCA certifications within 6 months of employment, these include, but are not limited to,
YMCA Principles of Healthy Lifestyles and YMCA Foundations of Strength & Conditioning.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
● Work is performed in a fast-paced wellness floor/office environment.
● Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as
necessary.
● Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
● Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
● Ability to sit for long periods at a time is also required.
● Ability to stand for at least 1 hour for presentations important.
● Employee must be able to hear, speak and understand the words of others, as well as, the ability to
manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, writing utensils is essential.
