What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Program Director position at YMCA?
Preschool Program Director works in collaboration with the Director of Youth Development and the Director of Early Learning to coordinate, supervise, and manage the Early Childhood Learning Centers. The Preschool Director must have flexible availability and be able to ensure the implementation of a high quality, developmentally appropriate Early Learning Program that adheres to all YMCA and Washington State guidelines. Standard schedule for a Preschool Program Director would be 9:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday with some variations as needed.

- STARS 30-hour basic training
- 10 hours of continuing STARS training each subsequent year.

Preschool Program Director Job Requirements:
Have demonstrated knowledge in-
- Behavior management specific to Early Childhood Programs
- Program management
- Early Childhood activity planning and coordinating (curriculum)
- Physical Requirements-Be able to lift 40 lbs
- Be able to stand up to 95% of the day
- Perform all activities with children (e.g. sit on the floor, run, jump, bend, kneel, etc)
- Participate in cleaning activities needed at each site
- Must possess the hearing and visual capabilities in order to supervise the children
The Program Director must-
- Have the understanding, ability, physical health, emotional stability and good judgment to meet the needs of the children in care
- Have a flexible schedule and be willing to substitute for staff/give breaks at the Early Learning Center during program hours
- Great written and oral communication skills, following proper grammar and spelling
- Be able to understand and adhere to a budget
- Be organized
- Be comfortable speaking in front of groups of people
Preschool Program Director Responsibilities and Duties:
- Ensure compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to early learning. Ensure that program standards are met, and health and safety procedures are followed.
- Assist with staff hiring, training, motivation, and evaluation. Supervise assigned staff and volunteers.
- Assist with the development of informational materials and brochures as needed for promotions and
Public Relations uses. - Help to maintain updated program information and schedules. Ensure effective communication of information with parents, participants, and YMCA Staff.
- Coordinate program planning, ordering of supplies, curriculum, snack, and field trips. Facilitate daily activities utilizing staff, child, and family input.
- Work, on average, 20 hours or more out of ratio performing supervisor duties. Plan and conduct activities that address the developmental needs, interests, and characteristics of all Y members.
- Have knowledge, or be willing to learn, of Early Achievers.
- Assist in the identification and resolution of problems to ensure programs are meet YMCA goals and community needs.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical, disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Assist in the development of special events and activities.
- Support high quality programs through innovative program development and assist in program evaluation annually.
- Focus on specific safety and risk management practices to ensure safe programs and facilities.
