Auburn YMCA Association Facts :
The YMCA owns and operates two locations in the Auburn area : the main facility in the city and Camp Y-Owasco on Owasco Lake. We also operate four school-age childcare sites in our service area. Established in 1859, the Auburn YMCA is one of the oldest YMCAs in the country. The current facility was built in 1939 and is approximately 150,000 sq ft. The overall condition of the building is good. The facility features : 2 gyms, 2 pools, 2 sets of racquetball courts, Men’s Health Club, Women’ Health Club, Preschool, Elevated walking track, Cardio and Weight Rooms, 2 Studios for group ex, and several multi-purpose rooms / areas.
The current Camp Y-Owasco site was built in 1960 and is approximately 58 acres located on Owasco Lake. The overall condition of Camp Y-Owasco is good. Buildings are maintained and improved and repaired annually by the facilities director. There is a total of 28 structures on the site including, cabins, lean-tos, bathhouses, and storage garages.

Program and Partnership Highlights :
The Auburn YMCA owns and operates Camp Y-Owasco, located on the east side of Owasco Lake. The 58-acre camp features fields, streams and forested hillsides with 13 cabins, two lodges, bathhouses, an infirmary, and office space. The camp celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2023. This past season, 565 children (unduplicated) were served by the day & resident camps. The Auburn YMCA partners with the Auburn Enlarged School district by providing Universal Pre-K for four-year-olds, as well as Pre-K program for three-year-olds. This program currently serves 115 children. The preschool program follows the school district curriculum and provides an opportunity for children to grow socially, emotionally, and cognitively in a safe, supportive environment.
The Auburn YMCA currently provides before and after school care at the YMCA and five other sites including our most recent site funded by the LEAPS grant. The purpose of this program is to help children develop to their fullest potential, support and strengthen the family unit and deliver child care in a safe environment. Over the past year, Auburn Y has served 120 children in before and after school care.
Current Childcare Program Summary :
The Auburn YMCA Stingrays Swim Team program has a nearly 50-year history of embracing the YMCA values and contributing to the greater Auburn and Cayuga County communities. This past year the Stingrays consisted of nearly 110 youth swimmers with 70 qualifying for the NYS YMCA State-wide Championship held in Long Island, NY. The Auburn YMCA Stingrays Swim Team were district champions in the “D” & “E” Age Groups as well as top ranking in the “A”, “B” & “C” Age Groups.
The Auburn YMCA also partners with the City of Auburn to provide seasonal management of the City owned Casey Park Pool. This is an outdoor Olympic size swimming pool of which the Y provides safe outdoor swimming opportunities open to Y members and free to city residents.
Wellness is an important hallmark of the Auburn YMCA. The Auburn YMCA supports the community with evidence-based health initiatives, such as Livestrong at the YMCA, Diabetes Prevention & Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring. Along with these programs, the Auburn Y offers many different levels of fitness classes, personal training, and small group opportunities for participants of all ages.

The City of Auburn is in Cayuga County, New York and is the County seat and its largest community. Situated at the north end of Owasco Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in Central New York, the city had a population of 26,866 at the 2020 census. Cayuga County is nearly 65 miles in length, stretching from its Northern border of Sterling and Lake Ontario to its most Southern towns, Locke, Summerhill, and Genoa. The County had a population of 76,248 at the 2020 census.
The City of Auburn is rich in history, arts and culture with museums and historic sites such as the Harriet Tubman National Historic Park and the William H. Seward House Museum. Auburn is home to the Auburn Doubledays a collegiate summer league baseball team. Other attractions to Auburn include local breweries and wineries, close proximity to the award-winning Finger Lakes Wine region, water activities, and many arts and cultural activities such as the Rev Theater at the Merry Go Round Playhouse and the Auburn Public Theater.
Cayuga Community College, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) is located in the City of Auburn with private colleges such as Syracuse University, Ithaca and Cornell University being less than an hour’s drive away. Auburn and Cayuga County are close to Syracuse and Rochester, offer an affordable cost of living, and are a 2-3-hour drive to the Adirondack Mountain Region and Niagara Falls.

The Board of Directors of the Auburn YMCA (“YMCA”) is seeking a leader to build upon the rich history, community engagement, and financial success of the YMCA. The next CEO must meet the challenge of maintaining and leading the financial momentum while setting a vision for the future with innovative and creative ways to serve the community. The YMCA is known in the community for its hospitality and welcoming attitude with warm and friendly staff and volunteers. Salary Range : $125,000-$155,000 annualized.
