What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Site Supervisor position at YMCA?
Primary Summary:
Assists in overseeing practices and games for youth sports to ensure a safe environment for all. Provides a quality experience to members and guests focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Essential Functions:
- Properly prepare playing areas to ensure safety for all participants.
- Visible and available to staff, coaches, participants, and fans to answer questions.
- Listens to concerns, resolves problems, and corrects inappropriate behavior. Documents situations and relays them to the YMCA Director as needed.
- Immediately notify the supervisor of any item of value that is left at a YMCA facility to receive instructions on where the item is to be stored or delivered.
- Check in with the supervisor prior to the scheduled shift for any necessary information, instructions, or supply/equipment pickup.
- Performs the role of an official to monitor play, oversee the safety of players and ensure the particular sports and YMCA rules are followed.
- Receives and carries out instructions.
- Maintains regular attendance. If unable to cover scheduled shifts, secure a substitute and notify the supervisor of schedule substitutions prior to the change.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Employees and volunteers who directly supervise children and teens will:
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens
- Attend required abuse risk management training annually
- Adhere to procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising children and teens.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age, some college preferred, and possess the experience suitable for the position.
- Individuals must possess maturity, sound judgment, a strong sense of responsibility, and have developed solid human relations skills.
- Sound organizational skills, good oral and written communications skills, and attention to detail are essential elements required to perform the duties of this position.
- Dealing with the public on an ongoing basis; customer service skills are required.
- General sports knowledge (basketball, soccer, flag football, and volleyball), the rules of the sport, as well as rules specific to YMCA sports.
- Possesses and demonstrates a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission, and values.
- Must be available to work evenings from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturdays up to 8 hours during the active sports season.
- Successful completion of background screening and Child Abuse & Neglect.
- Acquire and maintain the following certifications via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI): First Aid/CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
- Requisite Praesidium Online Training Modules (completed annually).
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. as required.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity that may include standing, walking, running, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, and reaching.
- The nature of the environment is one in which the employee may come in contact with outside weather conditions that may include hot/cold temperatures, rain, wind, insects, etc.
