POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant General Manager is responsible for supporting the General Manager in all aspects of running the shop with primary responsibility for driving sales, creating impactful marketing campaigns and expanding our catering services. The person in this role will spend 6-8 hours per week serving customers in the store to gain deep familiarity with the product, the team, and the customer. This knowledge is essential to effectively market YoPo and build a catering clientele. The person in this role shares responsibility for the iconic YoPo brand both inside and outside of the store and is expected to use their creativity to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty. As the primary point of contact with university and town liaisons, this person will generate catering contracts and drive group sales for the business. This person will also be a backup for the General Manager’s major responsibilities as needed, which include but are not limited to: Vendor Relationship Management, Inventory Management, serving as a role model and advisor to the hourly staff members, and maintaining the overall professionalism of the store. This position reports to the General Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Marketing strategy and execution
- Develop and execute a comprehensive marketing strategy to drive foot traffic, engage customers, and increase brand awareness, including website, social media, local advertising and promotions, printed materials and in-store engagement
- Manage TapMango rewards system, Valpak inserts, and weekly promotions
- Sell and Coordinate in-store events (e.g. Benefit nights, Theme nights, Tab Nights, etc.)
- Work with General Manager on marketing and launch of any new YoPo products and own the launch of the new Yogurt Sandwich (2024)
- Catering services expansion
- Develop and implement a catering sales strategy to identify and connect with potential catering clients (e.g University, local business, K-12 schools, youth sports, and other community partners)
- Pitch catering packages to clients and coordinate with General Manager to ensure seamless execution of catering orders
- Follow up with catering customers to nurture relationships and encourage repeat business
- In-store shifts
- Build understanding of YoPo products/services, culture, and customers by working a set number of in-store shifts per week in store alongside YoPro staff.
- Greet customers, swirl yogurt, interact with part-time employees, and conduct other shift responsibilities. Help foster a healthy and fun team environment by mentoring and coaching hourly employees.
- Communication and Organization
- Connect with General Manager through weekly check-in meeting to discuss upcoming plans, challenges, and project product needs
- Develop and maintain client database
- Respond to customer emails and phone calls
- Gain an understanding of the key operations of the Yogurt Pump business including vendor relations, inventory management, store upkeep and the scheduling and management of the contract (hourly) employees
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Proven experience in sales and marketing (preferably in the food industry)
- Customer-centered (friendly, adaptable, engaging)

- Coachable
- Basic web/social graphic design experience (e.g. Canva, Wix, Squarespace, Adobe, or equivalents)
Preferred:
- 1-3 years of food industry experience
- Some catering experience
- Familiarity with Chapel Hill and local market
