Title: Prevention Specialist
Reports to: Deputy Director
Under the supervision of the Senior Program Director, delivers programs and services to meet agency prevention outcomes, including evidence-based training, community education outreach and case management supports.
Yonkers Community Action Program, Inc. (YCAP) is seeking a skilled leader for a full time Substance Use Prevention Specialist in the OASAS program. The Prevention Program is a grant funded program through the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services. The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for presenting an evidence-based curriculum in elementary school classrooms. The Specialist will also be responsible for attending and leading community awareness events in the city of Yonkers. The intent of the program is to provide elementary school age children with skills needed to refrain from engaging in alcohol and substance use and to raise awareness in the community.
Core Responsibilities
Deliver evidence-based training programs selected by YCAP to meet prevention strategies; maintain course records and required data.
As a member of the Family Development Services Team, ensure that prevention supports and resources are integrated into case management and skills-building strategies for individuals and families.
Associated Tasks
· Participate in agency initiatives to build community-wide collaborations to strengthen protective factors against substance use and abuse
· Maintain contact with local prevention and treatment agencies to facilitate referral capacities
· Ensure agency staff remains current with local prevention issues and resources.
· Maintain assigned data management systems, including required documentation, and meet assigned reporting requirements
· Graduation from regionally accredited or New York State registered college with at least a bachelor’s degree plus work experience in a substance abuse prevention environment
· Additional work experience in case management and/or program development in low-income communities.
· Strong computer skills, including Office applications, and willingness to build proficiency in specialized agency software.
· Demonstrated computer literacy including Microsoft Office, Survey Monkey, Excel
· Experience as a training facilitator, preferably in evidence-based curricula.
· Position will require OASAS certification as Certified Prevention Specialist within 8 months of start date.
· Ability to work with cultural competency in a diverse community
· Ability to multitask in an often-fast paced workplace
· Ability to Commute to various worksites
· Eligibility for and possession of a New York State Driver’s License
Pay Range Information
The salary range listed for this position is a good faith determination of potential compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, licensing, certifications; for example, CPS/CPP other credentials)
