What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crossing Guard/Flagger position at York Academy Regional Charter School?
Ensures the safety of students, parents/guardians, family members, and community members at corners, crossings, intersections, and pedestrian walkways in reasonable proximity to York Academy Regional Charter School properties by monitoring and directing traffic accordingly.
DAILY SCHEDULE:
- Monday thru Friday
- 7AM - 8:30AM and then again at 2:30PM - 4:00PM
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Regulates, directs, and controls vehicular and pedestrian traffic at assigned school traffic posts.
2. Conducts traffic control at special events requiring traffic posts, if necessary.
3. Communicates with school administration and other crossing guards/flaggers via mobile/handheld radio.
4. Monitors traffic flow to locate safe gaps through which pedestrians can cross streets.
5. Directs or escorts pedestrians across streets, stopping traffic as necessary.
6. Communicates traffic and crossing rules and other information to students and adults.
7. Reports unsafe behavior of children and adults to school officials.
8. Learns the location and purpose of street traffic signs within assigned patrol areas.
9. Ensures that temporary traffic control signage is in place prior to the start of the assigned shift and removed
at the end of the assigned shift.
10. Monitors vehicular traffic flow in the Lower School student pick-up lane and adjusts traffic control to
maintain adequate and safe vehicular movement.
