Job Description:
York Country Day School seeks a dynamic and dedicated Science teacher to join the faculty full-time starting in the 2025-2026 school year.
Beginning upon hire, the teacher will teach courses in Science for assigned grades in the Middle & Upper School divisions. The primary area of academic focus will be Biology. The ideal candidate will connect well with students in each age group. Interested candidates should have expertise in 21st century learning within the classroom and knowledge with meaningful learning experiences for students. The teacher will be called upon to advise students and sponsor a club as well. All teachers are expected to be involved in the life of the school and participate in school events.

The Middle and/or Upper School faculty member will effectively engage students in the variety of age groups they instruct. In addition, all teachers are expected to act as advisors for a small select group of students. Students look to the adults of the school for models to shape their own behavior. All staff members are expected to provide positive role models for students through their daily actions. Faculty members are expected to work cooperatively and diligently with other members of the faculty and staff to create an educational environment for the students that aligns with the mission of the School.

A successful and stimulating learning experience for all students and a professionally operated department to serve as a resource for the school in alignment with the School’s mission.
Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate excellent communication skills and have a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team.
Qualifications include the ability to communicate with students and the public. Must also be able to apply supervisory skills, motivate students, be personable and professional, have patience with and understanding of students, and be able to learn and apply new concepts and ideas.

- Conduct classes as outlined by weekly schedule of the division
- Teach age/grade level academic skills in alignment with the School’s mission
- Maintain a curriculum map that clearly reflects the continuum of content and skills being taught in each assigned class. These skills will be based on and reflective of identified national standards.
- Nurture the love of academics as well as appreciation for and awareness of the need for a liberal arts and multi-disciplinary education
- Attend weekly faculty meetings, and serve as a resource to colleagues for individual departments
- See that classroom materials are organized and readily accessible for student and/or faculty use
- Serve as an advisor to a select group of students
- Be a visible engaged presence when on campus
- Foster and maintain a professional connection with the York College of Pennsylvania for educational and faculty resources
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree preferred
- Prior experience in a grades 6-12 classroom setting required.
- Independent school experience preferred.
