DESCRIPTION:
The Summer Camp Counselor provides guidance, care, and control of registered Spartan Explore campers (grades six through eight). Responsibilities include monitoring morning drop-off and afternoon pickup, contributing as needed with camp instruction, tending to and chaperoning campers in need of assistance, supervising the lunch period, and organizing and directing afternoon recreational activities.
Self-Defense

This camp focuses on both physical techniques and mental preparedness. This course is appropriate for beginners or anyone looking to improve their self-defense knowledge.

Provide for the Safety and Well-Being of All Campers50%
- Ensure campers are safely received from and retrieved by their registered guardian.
- Follow safety and emergency procedures and guidelines.
- Monitor the environment and activities for safety.
- Curb undesired behaviors by keeping children engaged in activities.
- Encourage appropriate social interactions to promote teamwork and togetherness.
- Inform the Summer Camp Director, Camp Instructor, and Campus Nurse of needs and issues.
- Interact with parents/guardians regarding instructions and special needs.
- Convey instruction to campers.
- Communicate with various campus managers regarding facility use (dining hall, Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center, academic buildings, etc.).
- Plan and lead campers in various indoor and outdoor recreational activities.
- Maintain a consistent and structured schedule.
- Ensure site cleanliness by guiding campers through daily routines and cleanup tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent; some post-secondary education preferred.
- Prior experience attending or working at a summer camp preferred.
- Experience working with children.
- Physical ability to assist campers in classroom and outdoor activities.
- American Red Cross CPR/AED and basic first aid certifications required.
- Ability to work effectively in a collegiate setting with enrolled and prospective students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and the greater college community.
- Ability to work independently.
- Must be trustworthy, punctual, and able to follow and enforce rules and guidelines.
- Ability to positively communicate with children and fellow workers.
- Ability to problem solve and effectively deal with conflict.
- Demonstrated capability in planning, organizing, and executing recreational activities.
