High School Principal

 

Reports To: Superintendent

 

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

Terms of Employment: 

Twelve months/240 days; salary paid on administrative scale and work year to be established by the Board

 

Job Summary:

York School District One is seeking a full-time Secondary Principal with a strong belief in the capacity of all children to learn. Must be instructionally strong, confident, and able to provide decisive management and rigorous instructional leadership. Values authentic two-way communication with staff, families, and the community. Emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and community engagement. Experience in leading staff with Standards-Based Instruction and best instructional practices. Invested in the social-emotional learning and development of students. Ability to translate vision into actionable plans, balancing transformational and technical elements. Proficient in creating systems of organization and leveraging digital tools.

 

Qualifications:

  • South Carolina certification or eligibility for appropriate certification.
  • Master’s Degree in educational administration or related field.
  • Minimum of five years as a teacher and three years as an administrator.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the board.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement a vision for school transformation that aligns with district goals, focusing on academic excellence.
  • Lead strategic initiatives to raise academic achievement and create a student-centered environment that prioritizes holistic development and builds a culture of excellence and accountability for all.
  • Inspire and motivate staff, students, and the community to embrace change, setting clear, ambitious goals to drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the curriculum to ensure rigor, relevance, and alignment with state standards, encouraging innovative teaching practices.
  • Utilize data-driven decision-making to identify trends in student achievement and create action plans that address performance gaps and improve student outcomes.
  • Partner with instructional staff to introduce and support effective teaching methods, integrate technology, and ensure that all students have the resources to succeed.
  • Lead a dynamic, skilled team by recruiting, developing, and retaining high-quality teachers and support staff committed to the school’s transformation.
  • Implement a robust professional development plan that equips faculty with skills to support a growth-oriented school culture.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable work environment where faculty are encouraged to innovate, reflect, and continuously improve their practice with a focus on results.
  • Build strong relationships with parents, community members, and local organizations to garner support and create partnerships that benefit the school.
  • Engage families in the school’s transformation process by facilitating open communication, providing regular updates, and inviting feedback.
  • Organize community events that reinforce the school’s mission, promote transparency, and strengthen community trust.
  • Oversee budgeting and resource allocation to ensure that funding is strategically aligned with the school’s transformational goals.
  • Manage operational processes such as scheduling, facilities upkeep, and student behavior to support a conducive learning environment.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and safety protocols.

Working Conditions:

  • Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.
  • Requires fine finger dexterity to use office equipment, office technology, and maintain accurate filing systems.
  • Effectively coordinate a variety of difficult, technical administrative functions at a level requiring extensive independent decision-making within established rules, policies, and procedures
  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • May experience constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines.

The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Service Personnel.
