SUMMARY

The ideal candidate will be an experienced coach with a strong understanding of cross country strategies, training techniques, and athlete development. They will be responsible for planning training sessions, coordinating travel to meets, ensuring compliance with all safety protocols, and adhering to departmental and YCCC policies. Furthermore, the coach will actively monitor the academic progress of student-athletes, support their academic success by overseeing mandatory study hall hours during the season, and facilitate referrals to other student support resources. The successful candidate will ensure that our student-athletes excel both on the course and in the classroom, embodying the colleges commitment to both athletic and academic excellence.
Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: This position is a contract position that will pay $4,000 for the 2025-26 academic year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Report to: Coordinator of Athletics
Supervise: Student-athletes, volunteers, and assistant coaches
Coordinate with: Coordinator of Athletics and other sports coaches, Director of Student Engagement, Director of Registration and Records, Admissions, Financial Aid, and other staff members as appropriate
Primary Duties:
Coach cross country; supervise practices and meets.
Actively recruit student-athletes.
Actively monitor the academic progress of student-athletes; support their academic success by monitoring mandatory study hall hours during the season and facilitating referrals to other student support resources.
Coordinate travel and transportation for meets.
Submit the names of team members to the Director of Athletics for eligibility review.
Report statistics and meet results to the Director of Athletics.
Assist the Athletic Department in collecting complete and accurate documentation required of student-athletes, e.g., liability waivers, proof of insurance, etc.
Educate players regarding YCCC travel policies.
Coordinate publicity with the Athletics office and report results to the media/YCCC Director of Communications immediately following a meet.
Assist in fundraising efforts within the Athletic Department.
Manage, record, and appropriately communicate to the Coordinator of Athletics notice of all injuries.
Coordinate and assist with travel and contest arrangements.
Coordinate with the Coordinator of Athletics regarding awards, budget, schedule, and recruitment.
Maintain flexibility in work schedule that may include days, evenings, and weekends.
Other administrative tasks as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to recruit student-athletes.
Ability to organize and supervise students.
Ability to teach skills related to cross country running as well as make it a positive educational experience.
Demonstrated cross country participation and/or coaching experience.
Valid drivers license.
Ability to be approved to operate a YCCC vehicle and transport others.
