We are excited to hire a full-time, exempt Zoning Administrator to join our team at York County Government, Planning and Development Services Department. In this impactful you, you will be responsible for managing all Zoning and Code Enforcement staff, administering the Zoning and Land Development Code, and serving as liaison to the Board of Zoning Appeals.Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with the ability to attend evening committee meetings as needed.
Projected Hiring Range/Pay Grade 123: $75435.81 - 90,522.97 per year. Salary is determined based on qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Manages all residential and non-residential development review, as it pertains to County zoning and land development requirements.
- Interprets and makes determinations on language in the Zoning and Land Development Codes as it relates to individual properties, residential projects, and non-residential projects.
- Reviews and presents requests for variances, waivers, administrative appeals, and special exceptions to the Board of Zoning Appeals and Planning Commission.
- Coordinates and conducts regular meetings with assigned staff regarding current projects under review or active code enforcement cases, which requires the ability to drive and operate a vehicle.
- Processes requests from the general public regarding zoning requirements and ordinances.
- Reviews and proposes changes to the Zoning and Land Development Codes as needed.
- Coordinates and conducts meetings and workshops for the general public to inform them of changes in the Zoning and Land Development Codes, projects that may be of high interest, etc.
- Coordinates and conducts workshops to inform public officials such as County Council, Planning Commission, and Board of Zoning Appeals on pending ordinance changes and projects of special interest.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
- Four (4) years of planning, zoning, or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid state driver’s license.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
- Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
