What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Administrator III position at York County?
Under limited supervision, performs professional work assisting in the operation and support of the County’s wide area network. Installs new software releases and system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches, and resolves software related problems. Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Uses experience and judgement to identify, plan, and accomplish goals to better the County’s IT environment. A degree of creativity and latitude is required. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Assembles and troubleshoots computers, servers, network switches, ancillary equipment and software to sustain service level requirements to County organizations.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a related field; 5 years practical experience in computer networks, computer support, software applications; and holds a top level Microsoft certificate for a modern Microsoft operating system, an advanced networking certification (such as CCNA), and an additional advanced computer certification (such as VMWare, storage, or SQL) current and applicable to the job duties; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must have the ability to manage a wide area network and personal computer support.
Experience using Microsoft professional operating systems and basic networking certifications preferred.
Experience with VMWare, storage solutions, and mobile device management solutions preferred.
Must have thorough knowledge of the latest versions of Windows Server, Exchange, and Microsoft Office.
Skill in administering Microsoft networks and active directory structures required.
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with good driving record mandatory.
Requires an acceptable criminal background investigation, including an acceptable applicant fingerprint check required by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Security Policy.
Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required to provide server support.
This position is considered an Essential Position (County designation as ALPHA) which requires the employee to report to work during inclement and extreme weather conditions, often outside normally scheduled work hours, or as notified by a supervisor.

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, plotters, printers, copiers, facsimiles, etc. Must be able to lift and installcomputers and be able to lift and move components weighing up to 55 pounds as needed. Physical demand requirements are for those of Moderately Active Work.
