What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Collection Specialist position at York County?
Responsible for assisting citizens with payments on personal property and real estate taxes, business licenses, vehicle registrations, and issues dog licenses. Researches accounts for delinquent collection actions such as special letters, DMV holds, and satisfied Warrants in Debt. Work is performed under supervision of the Collections Supervisor.
The incumbent must be available to work flexible hours, extended hours, and some weekends during deadlines and extremely busy times.High school diploma, supplemented by course work in accounting, and 1 year of closely related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Experience using AS-400 system and Munis software preferred.Responsible for accurate and confidential work in the support of tax collection. Assists taxpayers in person, by phone, and email; accepts payments for personal property taxes, real estate taxes, County vehicle registrations, utility bills, State income taxes, and excise taxes; collects fees and issues dog licenses.
Responds to various types of inquiries for taxpayers, title companies, and others to verify payments; submits requests to correct issues. Provides receipts and details for taxpayers to resolve inquiries about past payments and tax amounts due.
Locates and faxes state income tax payment records to the Virginia Department of Taxation when requested by taxpayers and the department.
Track and report various activities for state compensation board reporting.Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines which includes a computer, calculator, typewriter, postage machine, etc. Work involves some light lifting, bending, stooping, carrying, pushing, and pulling to open file drawers, or otherwise move objects. Work is sedentary in nature, and involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for short periods of time.
