What are the responsibilities and job description for the Telecommunications Shift Leader position at York County?
Responsible for overseeing the operations of and personnel assigned to a particular shift. Assists Dispatchers in the more difficult and complex calls/dispatches such as those involving coordination of various agency or department services, prioritization issues, and unit, equipment or apparatus dispatching conflicts, serves as the technical expert over complaint-taking and dispatching operations. Performs any and all responsibilities of a Dispatcher. High school graduate or equivalent; must meet all the requirements of a Dispatcher II and have a minimum of 4 years of full-time equivalent experience.
Must have completed the following training courses or have the ability to complete these courses within the first twelve (12) months: DCJS Instructor; VCIN/NCIC Instructor.
Completion of at least two of the following classes: Hostage Negotiations; Active Shooter, Incident Command; Leadership and Supervisor or Train-the-Trainer.
A valid CPR certification and completion of the in-house EMD training program required.
Must also successfully complete any additional training as assigned by the supervisory/management staff of the Emergency Communications Center.
Minimum of twenty (20) hours of approved in-service training is required annually.This is a fast-paced environment where attention to detail is critical. Incumbents work on a rotating shift, are expected to work holidays and weekends as scheduled, and are subject to be called back to work overtime as needed to keep the center staffed at a certain minimal level.
This position is considered to be essential (County designation as ALPHA). In the event of an emergency/inclement weather conditions, the incumbent is expected to remain at the worksite or to report to worksite in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures, or as notified by a supervisor.
Must reside within a sixty (60) minute response time from York County.Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including computers, audio-visual equipment, radio equipment, telephone equipment, cellular telephone equipment, dispatch console equipment, 9-1-1 system equipment, recording equipment, printers, emergency lighting and siren equipment, and common office equipment. Occasionally may need to lift, push, or otherwise move equipment or boxes. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Must be able to walk up and down staircases.
