Testing Specialist
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Academic Innovation & Professional Learning
FLSA Status: Exempt
Terms of Employment:
Twelve months/240 days per school year; salary and work year to be established by the Board
Job Summary:
The Testing Specialist coordinates statewide and District-wide testing programs, assessment programs, and program evaluation; manages test materials and trains school test coordinators; performs basic statistical analyses and produces summary reports as required. Performs related professional and administrative duties as required.
Qualifications:
- South Carolina certification as required for the position or eligible for appropriate certification
- Master’s Degree preferred but not required
- Teaching experience in public education
- Excellent leadership skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
Preferred Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of District policies, programs and activities related to assessment. Knowledge of state and district testing programs. Thorough knowledge of systems thinking and total quality management. Thorough knowledge of educational data and statistical support systems. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Knowledge of effective training and management methods.
Essential Duties
- Coordinates all federal, state and district wide testing programs as District Testing Specialist.
- Provides training to School Test Coordinators to assure smooth and accurate processing and flow of testing materials distribution.
- Supervises the Evaluation Program to include assessment and testing programs.
- Plans and develops research and experimental programs that will provide information concerning the instructional program in collaboration with Coordinator of Accountability and Student Information.
- Provides leadership in the development of various types of assessment for all areas of the curriculum.
- Prepares the District’s testing calendar in collaboration with Coordinator of Accountability and Student Information.
- Assists with the procurement and management of testing programs, materials and supplies.
- Organizes and prepares test materials to be shipped for scoring.
- Manipulates and generates data files for schools.
- Assist with coordinating the district’s data warehouse/data import and conduct training as needed in collaboration with the Coordinator of Accountability and Student Information.
- Attends school, District, community and other meetings; participates as a member of professional organizations and associations as appropriate.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, data requests, concerns and complaints regarding issues, programs, policies and procedures in areas of responsibility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Physical Requirements:
Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.
Working Conditions:
- Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.
- Requires fine finger dexterity to use office equipment, office technology, and maintain accurate filing systems.
- Effectively coordinate a variety of difficult, technical administrative functions at a level requiring extensive independent decision-making within established rules, policies, and procedures
- Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
- May experience constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines.
