Mainframe Engineer

Location: Hybrid 1 day onsite - Brooklyn Park, MN (candidates must be local to MN)

Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Mainframe Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in working with mainframe technologies, particularly in COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and GDG files. The Mainframe Engineer will be responsible for developing, testing, and implementing solutions that align with business objectives, while working closely with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.

Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and test mainframe-based solutions (COBOL Batch, DB2, JCL, CICS) that meet business requirements and align with overall strategy.
Conduct in-depth system analysis, identifying potential improvements and ensuring efficient execution of business processes.
Collaborate with the product team to build and implement features from the product backlog, ensuring alignment with user stories and business goals.
Write unit tests, create automated test scripts, and perform thorough testing (including system, integration, and acceptance testing) to ensure quality and compliance with business needs.
Document deliverables, processes, and outcomes as per project requirements and industry standards.
Work closely with infrastructure, security teams, and other departments to ensure that the developed features meet business needs and meet security and performance standards.
Participate in Agile development processes including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives. Follow the principles of Agile methodology, such as iterative development, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
Apply test-driven development (TDD) principles and contribute to the creation and execution of automated test scripts.
Contribute to the sizing of user stories and ensure they are appropriately defined for implementation in each sprint.

Required Qualifications:
3-5 years in an engineering role with extensive hands-on experience working with mainframe technologies (COBOL, DB2, JCL, CICS, VSAM, GDG files).
1-3 years of experience in an Agile development environment, participating in sprints and using Agile tools and techniques.
In-depth knowledge and experience with CA7 scheduler, COBOL Batch programming, and mainframe environments.
Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and familiarity with automated testing frameworks.
Scrum Master or Agile certification is a plus.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues efficiently.

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong preference for candidates with Scrum or other Agile certifications.
Experience working with a variety of mainframe-based technologies and tools.
Familiarity with automated testing frameworks for mainframe applications.
