POSITION: Nurse Aide -YMS
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: As Set by the Board of School Trustees
HOURS: 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
SALARY: $20.48/hour
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: LPN degree with current CPR certification Computer word-processing and typing skills. Sound behavior management skills. A - willingness to develop skills.

Essential Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned
General
- Assists the School Corporation Nurse in maintaining an effective school clinic.
- In the School Corporation Nurse’s absence, make all necessary arrangements to carry out the first aid and emergency care program when there is an accident or sudden illness.
- Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team.
- Seeks assistance from the School Corporation Nurse when appropriate.
- Prioritizes the urgency of student needs.
- Acquire appropriate forms and medical orders for administering medication per School Board Policy.
- Administers medications and treatments to students per physician’s order and parent authorization.
- Keeps all medications secured.
- Keeps all medications and first aid supplies in a clean and organized manner.
- Arrange for medications and emergency forms to be sent on all field trips.
- Assists the School Corporation Nurse with vision screening programs and follow up on referrals.
- Attend Meet the Teacher events and/or open houses as assigned.
Record Keeping and Clerical
- Documents individual student visits to the clinic including care received into Powerschool
- Maintains an accurate and legible medication administration record.
- Document Reconciliation of prescription and daily medications monthly.
- Collect Immunization records and input into Powerschool.
- Ensure all students are up to date with immunization requirements per Indiana Code.
- Completes accident reports accurately and in a timely manner. Sends a copy of all accident reports monthly to the School Corporation Nurse.
- Completes a monthly clinic report accurately and on time.
- Completes monthly checks for Building AEDs and stock Epi Pens.
- Accurately maintains cumulative student health records.
- Updates student health information in Powerschool.
- Maintain Student Emergency Authorization Forms.
- Assists employees/visitors at school who are injured with appropriate accident forms.
- Performs other clerical tasks as assigned by the corporation nurse or principal.
Student Management Skills
- Provides reinforcement for positive behavior.
- Deals effectively and consistently with inappropriate behavior.
- Adheres to school discipline policies.
- Is consistent and fair in dealing with students.
- Promotes a warm, open, and accepting climate.
- maintain CPI certification.
Relationship with Supervisors
- Communicates with the principals and teachers regarding student health, behavior, and attendance.
- Takes timely and appropriate action with regard to supervisors’ requests and concerns.
- Uses tact and courtesy in relationships with staff and/or administrators.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the School Corporation Nurse or principal.
Communication
- Informs appropriate staff and family of health needs or incidents that require further monitoring.
- Calls parents when students are ill or injured and informs the office and the teacher.
- Informs the nurse about planned or emergency absences from the job.
Knowledge and Skills
a. The ability to work independently using Microsoft Word, Excel (including mail merge, formulas, and spreadsheets), Publisher, etc. to prepare , create, edit, design memos, reports, letters, and newsletters.
b. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to relate to students, parents, staff, administrators, and community. The ability to negotiate effective working relationships, and develop position resolutions to conflict.
c. Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with ability to effectively prioritize.
d. The ability to work independently and within a team while maintaining cooperative working relationships.
e. The ability to communicate electronically. Possess highly developed technology skills.
