Summary:
Yorktown Systems Group is seeking a highly qualified and versatile Video Game Terrain Designer to provide professional services and support to the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) G-2. The TRADOC G-2 facilitates and acts as the principal enabler for continuous learning across all TRADOC lines of effort through acquiring, analyzing, creating, organizing, applying and transferring data, information, and knowledge in the context of current and future operations. The G-2 is responsible for delivering the Operating Environment to facilitate the training of deploying units on joint, national and interagency information, emerging asymmetric capabilities gleaned from world-wide operations; integrating processes, practices, concepts and materiel capabilities into Joint and Service DOTMLPF solutions; and coordinating with the training centers to provide realistic enemy and environmental signatures into models and simulations in support of realistic training.
The Operational Environment Center (OEC) Gaming and Visualizations (G&V) branch provides 3D visualizations, dynamic scenarios, and games for training which replicate the operational environments encountered by Department of Defense personnel. The OEC G&V Terrain Designer is an integral part of the G&V team integrating with all disciplines (3D Modelers, Programmers, Scenario Designers, and Videographers) and would be responsible for analyzing, designing, and building video game terrain from existing data sources to match real-world locations.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Examine source documents, data, and materials to of real-world terrain and translate for use in digital and video gaming environments.
- Resolve conflicting information between different terrain, GIS, and map data sources.
- Develop digital terrains in various gaming engines for use in OEC games and visualizations.
- Identify requirements and implement techniques necessary to solve digital terrain issues.
- Assist in the research of new software applications with regards to constructive and virtual training.
- Attend meetings and briefings pertinent to the acquisition of information regarding recent battlefield events as required.
- Support the OEC multi-echelon training mission.
Required Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Video Game Design, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science is preferred or related area with game programming coursework, and game programming skills.
- Ability to construct and elaborate on environments and objects based on key reference or concepts - Buildings, terrain, roads, foliage etc.
- Experience managing polygon count and texture budgets.
- Experience creating atmospheres, detail textures, and skyboxes/skydomes.
- Able to work as a member of a team meeting functional, technical, and aesthetic goals for content ranging from models and textures to implementation into gaming engines.
- Familiarity developing in at least one game engine (Unity, Unreal Engine 4, and/or VBS3) is required.
- Working knowledge of 3DS Max, Maya, or similar tools for high and low poly modeling are beneficial.
- Ability to prioritize several tasks at once, able to solve problems individually and as a team.
- Previous military experience preferred.
- Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required
Clearance: Secret clearance is required.
Location: FT Eustis, VA.
Travel: Some travel may be required.
