- Planning and Preparation
- Assist with organizing and maintaining the library collection (books, media, and digital resources).
- Prepare materials and resources for instructional use, including book carts, digital content, and research guides.
- Assist with scheduling, set-up, and preparation for classroom visits, book fairs, and reading programs.
- Maintain accurate inventory and circulation records using library software.
- Provide academic assistance to students using library resources, technology, or conducting research.
- Support individual and small group student work in the library, including helping with reading strategies or technology tools.
- Reinforce appropriate library behavior, encourage independent learning, and support student exploration of interests.
- Monitor students' use of resources and provide support for organization and self-directed learning.
- Assist with technology tools such as e-books, databases, and assistive tech under the direction of certified staff.
- Help students locate and access appropriate reading or research materials based on reading levels and interests.
- Collaborate with teachers to support instructional goals, literacy initiatives, or class projects requiring library materials.
- Establish a positive rapport with students, staff, and families, promoting a welcoming library environment.
- Communicate effectively with teaching staff to support student needs and identify appropriate interventions.
- Refer students and families to the appropriate personnel for questions beyond the library scope.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
- Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and appropriate appearance.
- Model and promote positive social interaction, appropriate language, and library etiquette.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and adapt to evolving technologies and instructional needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the librarian, classroom teacher, or administration to support instructional and library goals.
Minimum Qualifications:

- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Familiarity with library software (e.g., Destiny, Follett), basic tech troubleshooting.
- Ability to follow library and educational plans, provide feedback, and track student engagement.
- Basic understanding of educational materials, student needs, and literacy development.
- General knowledge of academic content areas (English, math, science, social studies).
- Awareness of the importance of inclusion, student independence, and assistive resources.
- Flexibility in responding to changing priorities and tasks.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Maintain accurate records, manage resources, and implement instructional strategies under direction.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and families when appropriate.
- Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent sitting; occasional standing and walking.
- Visual demands include close and distance vision; color vision for materials and displays.
- Clean and well-lit library/media center environment.
- Minimum Education: 30 semester hours OR successful completion of the Paraprofessional Educator Statewide Model Curriculum.
- Required Testing:
- ETS Paraprofessional Assessment OR
- ACT WorkKeys Assessment (Applied Mathematics: 4, Reading: 4, Writing: 4)
- Licenses/Certifications: Paraprofessional License (ISBE)

- Background/Fingerprint clearance
- Employment physical and TB test
