Placement on the Yosemite Community College District salary schedule dependent upon education and experience. 2024-2025 Salary Schedule – $71,890 to $134,199 per year or $84,629 to $137,137 with an earned doctorate. New personnel limited to a maximum tenth step initial placement based on previous experience – maximum equals $111,598 or $114,536 with an earned doctorate.

Benefits
The District currently pays for a health options for the employee and dependents. Employees may elect to pay a premium for a higher health option. Vision care and dental insurance premiums for the employee and dependents is District paid. Income protection and life insurance premiums for the employee are also District paid. The estimated cost of District provided benefits (health, dental, vision, and life) is $24,408 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent
(NOTE: A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Job Description Summary
GENERAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be online, in the evening, and/or on Saturdays. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Conduct individual student counseling appointments, including drop-in meetings and group workshops. Assignment will include some weekend and evening duties.
  • Help students understand the increasingly complex process of applying to college and registering for classes.
  • Assist students with determining career goals and linking those goals to a corresponding educational objective.
  • Advise students with making course selections and help them to create an Educational Plan that utilizes the digital software advantages of Starfish Degree Planner.
  • Discuss university transfer options and help students to make positive and realistic transfer decisions.
  • Refer students to appropriate student support and educational services on campus.
  • Monitor, support, and encourage struggling students during the academic and/or progress probation process, and dismissal appeal process.
  • Serve as liaison with CSU and UC systems, and private and out-of-state institutions, to gather and disseminate ever-changing information to students.
  • Recognize how to constructively apply referrals to students for ongoing mental health (therapeutic) counseling, instructional support, and other student services as needed.
  • Refer to campus and community partners who provide resources for basic needs; housing, food, and childcare insecure students as needed.
  • Help students cope with the stresses and strains of college, and life in general.
  • Teach a wide variety of Guidance classes, such as Career/Life Planning, Orientation to College, College Success and Identity, Culture and Education
  • Attend department, division, and college-wide meetings on a regular basis.
  • Engage in data inquiry and self-assessment to develop strategies for student success, persistence, and equity.
  • Engage in department program planning, evaluation, and improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in professional development activities, both departmental and college-wide, especially connected to closing disproportionate impact gaps and improving completion goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge in the subject matter area and effective counseling strategies to meet the needs of all learning styles.
  • Maintain appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
  • Engage in the college’s participatory governance processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL STANDARDS
  • Mobility: ability to sit or stand for long periods, move about an office, and reach above and below desk level.
  • Dexterity: fine manipulation sufficient to operate a keyboard, handle individual papers, write and take notes.
  • Lifting: occasional lifting of papers, files, equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual Requirements: close vision sufficient to read files, documents, and computer screens and do close-up work; ability to adjust focus frequently.
  • Hearing/Talking: ability to hear normal speech, speak and hear on the telephone, and speak in person.
  • Emotional/Psychological Factors: ability to make decisions and concentrate; frequent contact with others including some public contact; frequent deadlines and time-limited assignments.

Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Personal qualifications such as: effective interpersonal communication skills, participation in community affairs, ability to conduct effective public presentations.
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations, including students with disabilities, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices designed to address equity gaps.
  • Education and/or experience in teaching in teaching in Guidance and Skills Development at the community college level
  • Competent in new pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, on-line or hybrid teaching, and other pedagogies directed at improving student success and student equity.
  • Recent experience working with students of African American/Black, Hispanic, Native American, and other traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in the counseling setting and classroom, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Experience and expertise in culturally responsive counseling, especially as it relates to the relevancy in students’ lives, interests, and communities;
