The host or hostess is responsible for greeting and seating guests, managing reservations and walk-ins, and ensuring a smooth flow of service. Their duties typically include:
- Welcoming customers and providing a friendly first impression
- Managing the waitlist and reservations
- Escorting guests to their tables and presenting menus
- Answering phone calls and handling takeout orders if required
- Communicating with servers and kitchen staff to keep service running efficiently
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the entrance and waiting areas
- Assisting with customer inquiries and special requests
