You Gotta Believe (YGB) is a New York City-based, national organization specializing in finding permanent families for young adults, teens, and pre-teens in foster care. YGB focuses exclusively on preventing youth from aging out of foster care without family; thus reducing the risk of homelessness, incarceration, and poverty due to a lack of stable connections. Founded in 1995, YGB achieves this mission by collaborating with foster care organizations to recruit, match, and provide indefinite, comprehensive support to adoptive foster parents and youth.
You Gotta Believe (YGB) to looking to hire a part-time Staff Accountant to join their team. This person will interface across all our departments and programs and their teams and will handle support for daily and monthly accounting procedures. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver who enjoys developing and implementing improved accounting processes. This role will report directly to the Director of Finance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the full Accounts Payable (AP) life cycle to include vendor setup, coding and approving invoices, and processing disbursements via ACH or check
- Maintain vendor relationships by providing consistent communication, payment status updates and fielding other requests
- Collect W-9 for every new vendor; process and distribute 1099s annually
- Manage the full Accounts Receivable (AR) life cycle to include client setup, approval and distributing of invoices at month-end and follow up with municipalities on past due invoices
- Receive and record all incoming payments, including ACHs and checks. Deposit checks at bank
- Prepare the monthly bank reconciliations
- Help with the Finance Department’s move to a paperless environment by scanning incoming financial documents and maintaining these documents in an organized manner in Google Drive
- Assist the Director of Finance with the general accounting functions associated with the monthly close
- Reconcile financial discrepancies as necessary
- Contribute to the overall success of the Finance department by assisting in ad hoc projects and general tasks to include support during the annual audit process
- Responsible for computing, classifying and recording financial transactions to ensure the financial records of the organization are accurate
- Complies with federal, state and company policies, procedures and regulations
- Work with the Development department to ensure all donations are timely entered into Development’s CRM software. Assist Development department with the processing of tax receipts/acknowledgements to donors
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2-3 years of hands-on financial accounting experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Strong analytical and problem – solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced, flexible environment
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to deliver timely and accurate results
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

PART-TIME POSITION. This is a part-time position requiring 21 hours per week.
WE OFFER. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, and 403(b) retirement plan; 3 weeks of vacation (which includes the week between Christmas and New Year’s) and holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS. The position primarily involves traveling in the inner city, standing for two hours or more for workshops and presentations, and computer-based work from a seated position.
COMPENSATION. The compensation range for this position is $30 - $35 per hour and is commensurate with experience.
LOCATION. This position is in New York City and will have a hybrid work arrangement with 1-2 days in office each week.
