Description
You Matter 2 is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School Summer Program Assistant to support the planning and facilitation of our high school summer programs, including Discover U and Expressions Unleashed. Our summer programming focuses on college and career readiness, personal development, and mental wellness, all while fostering positive relationships and leadership skills in high school students.
In this role, you will serve as a mentor and guide, supporting students through hands-on workshops, one-on-one check-ins, and group sessions. You will play a key role in developing engaging workshop content, overseeing program logistics, and ensuring a supportive, inclusive environment where high school students can thrive.
You will also be responsible for managing session logistics, including attendance tracking, communicating with students and families, and supporting field trips or guest facilitator visits.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate college, career, and life skills workshops through the Discover U series
- Support Expressions Unleashed group art therapy sessions in partnership with Black Alphabet
- Build positive, mentoring relationships with students through regular check-ins and coaching conversations
- Assist in the planning and execution of summer field trips, guest speaker sessions, and community-based learning experiences
- Support the HS Program Worker & Youth Program Coordinator in managing schedules, supplies, and enrichment logistics
- Track attendance and maintain accurate records of student engagement and program outcomes
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and team members via email, phone, or text
- Collaborate with staff to ensure program quality and team cohesion
- Uphold a trauma-informed, student-centered approach to all programming
- Participate in required training, planning meetings, and staff development sessions
- Support special projects and organizational events as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Minimum of 24 hours of college credit in a related field (required)
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Education, Social Work, or Sociology (preferred)
Experience:
- Experience facilitating programming or workshops for high school-aged youth
- Ability to lead groups of 10–30 students in a structured and engaging way
- Strong mentoring instincts and a passion for youth development
- Experience working in summer programs, after-school settings, or camps (preferred)
Skills:
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to build trust and rapport with high school youth
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple responsibilities
- Culturally responsive, empathetic, and committed to equity
- Proficient in using technology for communication and documentation
