We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, accounts payable processing, and assisting with month-end and year-end processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and excellent analytical skills.
The Staff Accountant I supports the organization and direct service team members. This position is responsible for revenue accounting, general accounting, and financial statement preparation. Our accounting team works together to ensure all commitments are met in a timely manner and partners with all departments of the agency to drive accountability and collaboration.
Goals and outcomes:
- Align general ledger accounting practices to support reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather, analyze, and report relevant financial information.
- Keep informed of regulatory requirements and best practices in accounting.
- Meet individual goals as outlined by Director, Finance. Other duties as assigned.
Key accountabilities:
- Comply with all company, local, state, and federal accounting, and financial regulations
- Responsible to process and record accounts payable, accounts receivable and other financial activities.
- Input data into the general ledger.
- Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts and bank statements.
- Support annual audit process and fieldwork.
- Maintain accurate financial records.
Education/Credentials:
- Education in accounting
- Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred
- High School Diploma/GED
Required:
- 1-3 years of experience with general ledger accounting with in-depth knowledge of accounting standards and regulations.
- 1-3 years of experience with accounts payable
- Strong organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred but not required:
- 1-3 years of experience with accounts receivable
- 1-3 years of experience with payroll
- Experience in non-profit accounting environment
- Experience using Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains software
