Reports To: Principal/Network Director of Academic Advancement
Job Summary:
The High School Academic Counselor provides guidance and support to students in their academic, career, and personal development. The counselor assists students in course selection, graduation planning, college and career planning, and collaborates with administrators, teachers, and parents to prepare students for their post-secondary goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create student schedules, Individual Graduation Plans (IGPs), transcripts, and academic
support plans
- Provide guidance on course and pathway selection based on students’ interests, future goals,
graduation requirements
- Monitor student progress and intervene when necessary to support academic success.
- Maintain organized and current documentation of students records in compliance with district
and state guidelines
- Facilitate meetings with parents, students, and support teams for development of student IGPs,
pathway changes, or academic concerns
- Send timely and effective communication to parents regarding counseling events, student
progress, or academic concerns
- Advise students on college admissions, scholarships, financial aid, and career pathways
- Assist with organizing college fairs, college visits, career fairs, parent meetings, and guest
speaker events.
- Assist with SAT/ACT registration, college applications, and essay reviews
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field (Master’s
degree preferred).
- Certification: Valid school counseling certification/license (as required by the state).
- Experience: Prior experience in academic counseling or student support services preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of college admissions, career pathways, and student support strategies
- Effective organization and time management skills
- Knowledge of JCampus for scheduling and reporting preferred
Work Environment:
- Primarily based in an office within the school.
- Interaction with students, parents, and staff on a daily basis.
- Occasional evening or weekend events for college nights, career fairs, or parent meetings
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $54,500.00 per year
