JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY: Attention hardworking and enthusiastic students looking for a paid HR internship this summer. Join us at Young Brothers, LLC (YB), Hawaii's only authorized interisland cargo water carrier! One (1) intern will be selected to support the Human Resources department with various administrative and operational tasks to develop their knowledge and skills in a professional setting. This intern will be provided the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience in the Human Resources fields they are considering for career paths and will also provide the company the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent. Key responsibilities include assisting with our electronic filing system, employee onboarding, maintaining employee records, and helping organize HR-related events or training classes. In addition, this intern will gain an understanding of the interisland water transportation system and how the company impacts the community within the islands. This position offers hands-on experience in the HR field and provides the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of HR best practices and workplace compliance. OVERVIEW: * Time Frame: Begin mid-May 2025 and end mid-August 2025 (no more than 90 days duration) * Location: YB Administration Offices: 1331 N. Nimitz Highway (Piers 39/40) Honolulu, HI 96817 * Pay: All internships are paid positions ($20/hour). * Benefits: Intern selected will receive direct access and guidance from seasoned HR professionals and opportunities to interact with various business units within the company. Free parking on site. * Intern Qualifications: The individual is enrolled and completed the second year of an accredited post-secondary institution * Strong work ethic * Strong computer skills * Excellent written and verbal skills * Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion when handling sensitive and confidential information. * Overall GPA of at least 3.0 * Preference for students who have completed/enrolled in Human Resources or Management courses and/or related studies. Basic understanding of corporate organizational documents and have the ability to work inside and outside of an office setting. * Schedule: Schedule will be determined by Intern and the HR Director at the beginning of the program. Internship is granted based on candidates meeting minimum qualifications and a successful interview. There is no promise or guarantee of placement of employment. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is mostly performed in a normal office environment. May be required to work more than a normal work week, including weekends. Travel may also be required. Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to move between buildings, ascend/descend stairs, access vessels, and go outdoors in all kinds of weather. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The workday usually has a high number of interruptions and priority changes necessitating the need to remain flexible and focused in order to accomplish tasks.
