Description
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMNNP) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services at Young House Family Services. The PMHNP will work in coordination with Young House Family Services Mental Health Therapists to provide psychiatric services to adult and youth clients with behavioral health issues.
PMHNP ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. These items will be the accountabilities for performance appraisals.
1. The PMHNP has a responsibility to YHFS clients and actively participates in a team-oriented treatment plan.
2. Provide outpatient clinical services to clients, assess, diagnose, and prescribe medications to clients, and refer to other programs within YHFS as seen necessary.
3. Encourage family involvement in patient care. Respond to identified patient and family educational needs.
4. Practice appropriate health care interventions as needed, using appropriate guidelines for Family Nurse Practitioner or PMHNP prescriptive practice.
5. Complete all paperwork responsibilities accurately and timely, and oversee staff paperwork, ensuring it is completed timely and in accordance with licensure, contracts, and agency standards.
6. Establish and maintain positive relationships with referral sources and other relevant community resources and educate the community about YHFS (Young House Family Services) programs.
7. Available to assist with de-escalation, crisis intervention, and debriefing with staff and clients.
8.Participate in staff team meetings according to program’s needs.
9.Establish and maintain professional boundaries with staff and clients.
10. Attend all required meetings and trainings in accordance with licensure and/or contracts as applicable.
11. Respond promptly and timely to crisis calls, situations, and/or emergencies as needed in support of program staff.
PMHNP ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. These items will be the accountabilities for performance appraisals.
1. Understand and communicate with the team regarding signs, symptoms, treatment, and prevention of behavioral health conditions.
2. Act as a liaison between team members.
3. Participate in hospital/out of home placement discharge planning for clients, as needed.
4. Engage members and primary caregivers as an alternative to emergency room or
hospital care.
5. Identify and link to long-term care and home and community-based services.
6. Enter client data in electronic medical record within established time frames.
7. Participate in development of comprehensive and crisis plans.
Requirements
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Current license with the Iowa Board of Nursing or Iowa Department of Public Health.
- Certification with US Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration for Controlled Substance Registration Certificate.
- For PMHNPs: ANCC Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner preferred
- Certification with State of Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners for Certificate of Registration Iowa Controlled Substance Act.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
- Exceptional skills in providing flexible and relevant customer-centered treatment rehabilitation and support in the community.
- Expertise in psychiatric assessment and diagnosis, psychotherapy and symptom management, treatment and management of acute and sub-acute situations in the community.
- Excellent skills in psychopharmacology, especially the use of newer anti-psychotic medications.
- Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based psychiatric care.
- English is essential, bilingualism and other languages an asset.
