Summary
Young Living is looking for a self-motivated, results-driven Microbiologist. This position plays a significant role in supporting the testing of product prior to release. This individual has the educational background and skills to support product testing using microbiological sciences.
Essential Functions

  • Aseptically perform a variety of microbiological tests on Young Living products using both instrumental, rapid, and traditional microbiological techniques. (40%)
  • Follow GLPs/GMPs to report test results and maintain records. (10%)
  • Aseptically prepare and dispense media and other reagents used in microbiological testing. (20%)
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment including, but not limited to: balances, pH meters, and Dilumat (5%)
  • Peer review testing data, notebooks, and other laboratory documentation for completeness and accuracy (5%)
  • Write, review, and execute simple equipment qualifications (5%)
  • Review/Revise SOPs, STMs, and DWIs (5%)
  • Communicate with management and other team members regarding the status of product testing and special projects (5%)
  • Perform out of specification investigations (5%)
Competencies
Expert with aseptic techniques in sampling and conducting all microbial assays
Proficient in instrument qualification practices
Proficient in documentation procedures
Communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms to management and team members
Working knowledge of MS office and other software applications
Compliant with Good Manufacturing practices, Good Documentation practices, and Good Lab Practices
Training and Development
Maintain sample throughput.
Write or revise written processes for complex instrumentation and methods.
Develop and validate testing methods to increase efficiency within the lab.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic knowledge of GDP, GLP, and GMP.
Basic Knowledge of compendium test methods including AOAC, BAM, and USP.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work under deadlines
Supervisory Responsibility
This job does not supervise employees.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office and lab environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as a laptop, desktop. Also requires the use of personal protective equipment when working in the lab setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Essential oils are worn and/or diffused in the work environment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use manual dexterity to handle, feel, and operate objects, tools, and controls and reach with hands and arms. This individual is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to type, file, and lift office and lab supplies up to 20 pounds. The employee must be physically able to tolerate the scent of essential oils worn or diffused.
Job Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position requires the incumbent to be physically present at the assigned worksite. The regular schedule is from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university in microbiology, biology or a related field. 0-3 years of related experience and/or training.
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in microbiology with 1-3 years of experience in microbiological testing in a quality control environment. 1-3 years of experience with GMP, GLP and GDP.
Bachelor’s degree in microbiology with 8-12 years of experience in microbiological testing in a quality control environment. 8-12 years of experience with GMP, GLP and GDP.
