The Community Outreach Specialist reports directly to the VP and Chief Youth Development Operations Officer, serving as the primary resource for supporting and coordinating all fund development and general administrative needs within the Youth Development Program area. This position is responsible for building relationships with members, volunteers, businesses, and community partners to enhance their involvement with the YMCA.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates closely with the VP & Chief Youth Development Operations Officer and Executive Directors to handle a wide range of administrative tasks, including developing and coordinating programs that solicit financial gifts from both new and existing donors.
- Clearly communicates the community benefits and the Y’s impact to all stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, members, and community leaders.
- Develops positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses and governmental entities.
- Independently research, prioritize, and follow up on multiple incoming matters addressed to the Youth Development executive leaders, including those of a sensitive and/or confidential nature; determine appropriate course of action, referral, and/or response.
- Emphasizes safety in the execution of all tasks and actively contributes to fostering a safety culture.
- Recruits and manages volunteers as needed per current Volunteer Policies and Guidelines.
- Ensure all Fund Development work is consistent with approved Leading Practices.
- Work closely with the Association Fund Development department to ensure that all youth branch fund development goals and budgets meet or exceed program targets, with a focus on annual giving and sponsorship.
- Act as the primary prospect researcher for Youth Development Programs, including overseeing the management of prospect lists.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 2 or more years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in the YMCA and/or not-for-profit.
- Proven track record of developing authentic relationship with others and establishing and maintaining collaborations with community.
- Proficient in Microsoft.
- Demonstrated skills in planning, time management flexibility, organization, and independent work.
- Excellent human relations skills and an ability to maintain position communication with staff and members.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including telephone etiquette and computer use.
- Prior experience of successful supervisor of staff and volunteers preferred.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
Schedule:
This is a full-time position at 40 hours weekly. Schedule requirements are Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm.
