The Downtown Family YMCA opened its doors in 1964 and has since been a landmark in the Downtown Boise area. The facility has a full court basketball gym, a large cardio fitness center, multiple strength training systems and rooms, racquetball courts, a climbing wall, five fitness studios, three swimming pools, and multiple youth programming areas.
The Cooking Class Instructor leads culinary classes for children and teens and creating a love for cooking, teaching, and inspiring young people to explore the culinary world. This position involves creating fun, engaging, and educational cooking experiences for youth, while also teaching them important kitchen skills, food safety, and healthy eating habits.

Schedule:
This is a part-time position averaging 4 hours per week. Schedule requirements are Tuesday and Thursday, 6:15pm -8:15pm. Pay is $14.15/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Lead cooking classes for children and teenagers, providing step-by-step instruction on recipes and cooking techniques.
- Plan and prepare age-appropriate, engaging, and nutritious recipes for each class.
- Teach fundamental cooking skills, such as knife safety, food measurement, and cooking methods.
- Introduce students to basic nutrition, food groups, and the importance of healthy eating.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and interactive classroom environment.
- Provide clear instructions and guidance to ensure each participant’s safety and success.
- Supervise children in the kitchen, ensuring safe practices with cooking tools and appliances.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary education or certification is a plus.
- Previous experience teaching or working with children is preferred.
- A passion for cooking and working with youth.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and kitchen hygiene.
