What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Group Exercise Instructor - West Boise YMCA position at YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF BOISE IDAHO INC?
Serving over 20,000 active youth, adult, and family members, the West Branch of the Treasure Valley Family YMCA helps members lead a healthier, happier life. Facility amenities and features include six fitness studios, three racquetball courts, full-court basketball gym, youth activity center, climbing wall, 50-meter swimming pool, and training pool.
The Water Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for creating a safe, friendly, and helpful atmosphere for members participating in group
exercise classes.
Responsibilities:
- Develop intentional relationships and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Use the class platform to educate and inform participants about other Y program offerings.
- Conduct class in a quality, fun, and safe manner that results in increased attendance. Follow fitness trends and utilize prescribed formats when applicable.
- Actively identify participants who need additional support, such as new members, health seekers, and participants with diverse abilities.
- Monitor and ensure the safety of all participants.
- Provide excellent delivery of water group exercise instruction to all members.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate
when dealing with others.
Required Certifications:

- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Prerequisite upon hire – 14 day compliance period.
- First Aid - Prerequisite upon hire – 14 day compliance period.
- Emergency Oxygen - Prerequisite upon hire – 14 day compliance period.
- Y Aquatic Safety Assistant (YASA)- Prerequisite upon hire – 90 day compliance period.
- Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) - Prerequisite upon hire – 90 day compliance period.
Schedule:
This is a part-time position averaging 3-10 hours weekly. Schedule requirements are morning and/or evening needs.
