What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard - Summer (High Street) position at YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL KENTUCKY INC?
The YMCA of Central KY is looking for attentive lifeguards for all of our YMCA branches. Available to start before summer? Great! Apply to this posting today. The lifeguard rate outside of the summer timeframe noted below starts at $11/hour.
Summer lifeguard rate starts at $15/hour (from May 19, 2025 - September 1, 2025). You can work up to 40 hours per week, if interested.
Not certified but interested in becoming a lifeguard? The YMCA will cover the costs associated with your certification. Must be able to complete a pre-requirement swim during interview. The pre-requirement swim includes:
- 50 yard freestyle, 50 yard breaststroke, and 50 yard side stroke
- Cannot use goggles: sprint to the deep end, swim down hands first and touch the bottom of the pool, come up and tread water for 1 minute with no hands, and get out of the pool without using the ladder
Must be 16 years of age or older. Position requires excellent swimming skills plus a varied aquatic background. Certification or crossover available through the YMCA.
Shifts vary indoors and outdoors in 4 - 8 hour increments within the open hours. Branches are open Monday thru Friday from 5:30am - 9pm, Saturday 6am - 6pm and Sunday 10am - 6pm.
Lifeguards provide a sense of control over the entire pool area, including deck areas and locker rooms. This will increase the safety of the pool for all members and their guest. The lifeguard is the first source of emergency care in the event of an accident. Time will be spent doing routine maintenance duties as assigned by the management.
