What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sports Intern position at YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL KENTUCKY INC?
Required Education Level: Current college student or recent college graduate majoring in sports management, kinesiology, human health sciences, etc.
Required Commitment: Determined by academic program (must submit number of hours needed with application); hours should be completed during our hours of operation as outlined on our website. Candidates are required to complete hours on time with school program to receive credit from YMCA supervision.
Sports Intern Stipend: A stipend will be paid at the completion of the internship. All hours for the internship must be entered via UKG Ready each week. Supervisor and Intern responsible for tracking hours throughout duration of internship. $250-$500 per semester, based on hours completed.
SPORTS INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
The ideal candidate will express interest in a variety of programs the YMCA offers including, but not limited to sports, wellness, customer service and youth. This is a part-time position.
As an intern for the YMCA of Central Kentucky, the Sports Intern will be able to demonstrate skills in the following areas: planning, programming, marketing, implementation and facilitation of a variety of programs and events in Sports.
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and driven Sports Intern to assist our YMCA Sports Team with sports-related and administrative tasks. The Sports Intern’s responsibilities include game-day refereeing, weeknight practice coverage, weeknight and weekend site supervision, daily office work including data entry, phone calls, and assisting in recruiting sports staff. Our YMCA Sports Intern will be detail-oriented and able to demonstrate excellent administrative and organizational skills.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under direct supervision of the YMCA of Central Kentucky Regional Sports Director:
- Experience opportunities for personal and professional growth through hands-on learning experiences and appropriate training experiences.
- Uphold and exemplify the principles of the YMCA, including caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Responsible for strict adherence to all YMCA policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Detail-oriented.
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal or no supervision. Possess the ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with Daxko (Membership and Program) & PlayerSpace (Sports Program System) software is advantageous.
- Proven experience working in an office environment. Possess the desire to work and grow as a professional in a positive environment. The ability to work as part of a team.
- Exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of his or her work with the YMCA.
- Working towards a bachelor's degree in Sports Management or related field.
- Red Cross: First Aid - CPR/AED certified (30 days within hired).
