What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wellness Intern position at YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL KENTUCKY INC?
Required Commitment: Determined by academic program (must submit number of hours needed with application); hours should be completed during our hours of operation as outlined on our website.
Stipend: A stipend will be paid at the completion of the internship. You will need to clock in/out in UKG to determine the stipend amount.
$250 – average of 4-6 hours per week
$500 – average of 9-10 hours per week
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:
The ideal candidate will express interest in a variety of programs the YMCA offers including, but not limited to sports, wellness, customer service and youth.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under direct supervision of the appropriate department director:
1. Assist the wellness department with equipment orientations, healthy living programs, staff meetings and maintenance of the wellness floor.
2. Develop, implement and instruct safe and effective personal training and group training exercise programs under full supervision.
3. Attend and participate in YMCA events including but not limited to the following: The Black Cat Chase 5K, Healthy Kids Day, Indoor Triathlon, Central Kentucky Swims, Reindeer Ramble 5K, Kids Triathlon, and other special events for fundraising and education.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
1. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
2. Self-motivated, able to work with minimal or no supervision.
3. Possess the ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
4. Exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of his or her work with the YMCA.
5. Possess the desire to work and grow as a professional in a positive environment.
6. Red Cross: First Aid - CPR/AED certified (90 days within hired)

As an intern for the YMCA of Central Kentucky, the intern will be able to demonstrate skills in the
following areas: planning, programming, marketing, implementation and facilitation of a variety of programs and events in the areas of Sports, Wellness, Membership and Youth.
