What are the responsibilities and job description for the Easton Family YMCA Sports and wellness Director position at Young Men's Christian Association of the Chesapeake, Inc?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Position is directly responsible for both Sports and Wellness Departments.
Primary responsibilities include supervision of all youth sports including
soccer, basketball and volleyball as well as all wellness and group exercise
programs, including fitness assessments, personal training assignments,
equipment orientations, member orientation and special events. Preferred
candidate will have ability to teach or be trained to teach group exercise
classes as well.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Directs sports referees and site leads in their respective position to
ensure proper understanding of their department responsibilities,
accurate training, and impactful engagement of program participants.
2. Recruits, trains, and recognizes volunteer coaches for all sports.
Accurate tracking of all volunteer hours for Sports Department.
3. Reviews and evaluates the program enrollment, and services provided
by the sports department and communicates findings to their
supervisor.
4. Heavy involvement in summer camp programming including daily
engagement on each camp and the leadership of the part time staff
helping facilitate.
5. Camp curriculum development and implementation.
6. Directs wellness floor assistants, group exercise staff, and volunteers
of the department in their respective responsibilities.
7. Recruits, trains, and recognizes wellness and group exercise staff.
8. Focused approach to small group training and personal training
implementation plan resulting in higher participation rate in both
program areas.
9. Reviews and evaluates the program enrollment, and services provided
by the wellness department and communicates findings to their
supervisor.
10. Identifies new and innovative programs in the area of health and
wellness, while targeting youth, adults, seniors, and families with an
emphasis on increased membership retention.

11. Meets weekly with Sr. Membership Director to review new joins and
create connection plan centered around new member goals resulting in
engaged members and strengthened retention.
12. Orients new wellness staff and provides guidance and clarification of
work duties and assignments.
13. Supervises the wellness center by being attentive to all participants to
protect their safety. Instructs members and participants on safe
exercise techniques including but not limited to warm-up and
stretching progression, aerobic conditioning, strength training, proper
use of center equipment and workout routine.
14. Maintains all equipment on fitness floor and group exercise space
ensuring safety and proper upkeep.
15. Instructs group exercise classes based on personal experience and
need of the YMCA.
16. Facilitates annual and quarterly wellness programming including
member challenges, YMCA Turkey Trot, etc.
17. Ensure cleanliness of fitness center through daily cleaning checklist
and equipment maintenance plan.
18. Provides leadership and support to annual Strong Communities
Campaign and volunteer committees as needed.
19. Develops and manages annual budget ensuring financial success of
department and thus the YMCA.
20. Serves on Association Sports and Wellness teams

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Health and Wellness or related
field with preferred two years’ experience working in the field or relatable
professional experience.
2. Required certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACE,
NETA, AFAA, NASM, YMCA of the USA) in personal training.
3. Nationally recognized Group Exercise certification preferred
4. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 90 days of hire.
5. YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program training preferred.
6. At least one year of experience in personal training and/or wellness
consultation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including walking,
standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
