What are the responsibilities and job description for the Henson Family YMCA Asst. Swim Team Coach position at Young Men's Christian Association of the Chesapeake, Inc?
General Function:
Under the supervision of the Head Swim Team Coach and Aquatics Director, the Assistant Coach will provide leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants and is expected to attend all designated swim meets and team functions throughout the year. The Assistant Coach is also responsible for creating and maintaining a clean and safe environment for the swim team participants.
Principal Activities:
- Assist Head Coach in creating thorough, age-appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc…
- Lead structured practices as scheduled be the Head Coach.
- Help to record all work-outs and track daily attendance.
- Assist Head Coach with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meet arrangements and team performance as well as interaction with parents.
- Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitions and meet registrations. Record times at swim meets.
- Attend all swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, etc… as assigned by Head Coach.
- Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment.
- Cooperate and assist with other YMCA staff to maintain a clean and safe environment for all participants.
Requirements:
- Must be at least 20 years of age
- 2 years experience as a competitive swimmer;
- USA Swimming Coach or ASCA Level 1 and Principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming certification preferred. Willingness to obtain within the first year.
- Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with YMCA standards and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics and be able to communicate effectively with swimmers and their parents.
- Certifications: CPR, AED, Basic First Aid and Lifeguard certification or willingness to obtain;
