Sport Skills Instructor - Volleyball

GENERAL FUNCTION:  Under the supervision of the Sports Director, the Sport Skills Instructor will provide sport skill specific instruction/lessons to individuals that have purchased Sport Skill Specific sessions at the YMCA.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience Requirements:

1. Minimum age 20
2. 2 years of experience coaching the sport
3. Experience coaching middle school sports
4. Four-year degree in related field preferred

Physical/Mental Requirements:

1. Must be able to frequently perform the following physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and carry up to 35 pounds, and communicate verbally
2. Ability to demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, and the desire to work with all ages, especially children
3. Must possess ability to remain alert and maintain concentration for long periods of time to ensure safety of participants
4. Must possess ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
5. Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision
6. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
7. Must maintain a neat and professional appearance

Job Requirements:

1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
3. Complete CPR, AED, First Aid, and O2, in accordance with Conditions of Employment
4. Complete Listen First Training

1. Required to sign a non-solicitation agreement

1. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
2. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch and participants

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Must possess ability to lead the instruction of participants and effectively supervise and motivate participants to reach their individual goals.
2. Responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of and ability to demonstrate sport specific skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
3. Provide all sessions on YMCA property.
4. Responsible for instructing and evaluating participants in accordance with YMCA guidelines, preparing session plans accordingly.
5. Responsible for building effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents.
6. Responsible for conveying information on Sports and Sports performance programs as appropriate.
7. Submitting completed records on time (i.e. attendance, progress reports).
8. Organizing and putting away needed session equipment. Reporting any facility or equipment irregularities to supervisor in writing.
9. Responsible for the safety of participants. 
10. Following and enforcing all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
11. Responsible for being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures. 
12. Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form and providing to supervisor within 24 hours of event.
13. Working hours as scheduled; including beginning and ending session on time; remaining after session to answer participant/parent questions as needed and cleaning up equipment.
14. Attending all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
15. Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising.
16. All other duties as assigned.
