Description
Under the direction of the Program Director, the State PreK Teacher is responsible for meeting the developmental needs of children ages four and five years of age in a group setting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to : planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans; providing a safe and secure environment; providing documentation of positive developmental outcomes for students; as well as maintaining positive relations and communications with families, partnership agencies and program staff; directing classrooms assistants, aides and volunteers to meet program standards will make the Early Learning Center successful.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
Monitor children's developmental progress through observation record, checklists, daily reports and formal assessments.
Develop a daily schedule that provides a balance of active and quiet activities
Maintain positive, open relationships with families
Conduct parent teacher conferences twice yearly as scheduled and more often as needed
Manage all classroom supplies and equipment in a safe and organized manner.
Participate in organizational meetings and training.
Meet and / or exceed KDHE regulations and CACFP guidelines in relation to programming for children birth to six.
Represent the YMCA well to all who come in contact with you and your program.
Requirements
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Education / Experience Requirements :
Minimum age of 18
Must hold a current Teaching License in Elementary Education. Preferred with early education
Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in elementary education or early childhood
Must have relevant experience working with children
Maintain current CPR, First Aid and Signs and Symptoms of Childhood Illness, Child Abuse Neglect, Child Development, and Safe Sleep certifications or acquire within 30 days of hire.
Physical / Mental Requirements :
Must be able to routinely perform the following moderate physical activities; climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time, lift and / or move up to 75 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity
Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, motivation and desire to work with all ages, especially youth
Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision
Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently and lead by assigned goals, duties and deadlines
Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

Complete Pediatric CPR / AED and First Aid, KDHE Physical, negative TB test, Health & Safety trainings,
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Demonstrate a high level of maturity, patients, dependability, sound judgment; and the desire to work with all ages.
Learn all emergency procedures and action plans for the branch as necessary
Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch; including weekends and evenings
