JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • Uphold the YMCA mission, vision and values as well as display the Character Development core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility
  • Ability to effectively supervise participants and maintain safety standards
  • Ability to work accurately at a fast pace
  • Ability to communicate effectively : both oral and written
  • Ability to handle all questions and concerns and resolve conflicts in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment; and the desire to work with all ages, especially children

Planning

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Plan in advance and turn into your Teacher / Director weekly lesson plans and supply needs.
  • Post-current lesson plans in classroom at all times.
  • Develop a daily schedule that provides a balance of active and quiet activities, individual and group times.
  • Arrange the classroom to provide for learning centers and rotate toys routinely.
  • Monitor children's developmental progress through observation records, checklists, daily reports, and formal assessments.
  • Parent Communication

  • Maintain positive, open relations with all families.
  • Address and greet parents by name upon arrival and departure.
  • Reinforce daily to parent and child the successes and positive behaviors exhibited.
  • Visit with parents and keep record of all behavior concerns as may arise.
  • Communicate all concerns and provide written documentation of all concerns to Lead Teacher / Director.
  • Conduct parent teacher conferences twice yearly as schedule and more often as needed.
  • Facilitate all classroom activities, participate, model, and observe as necessary.
  • Classroom Organization

  • Manage all classroom supplies and equipment in a safe and organized manner.
  • Maintain the classroom environment to support smooth transitions and the independent learning of children.
  • Maintain neatly all storage areas.
  • Follow cleaning schedule, as posted and additional items deemed necessary.
  • Display all postings and children's work in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and clean environment

  • Lift and carry children as need.
  • Follow all program guidelines in regard to food service, clean up and food storage.
  • Complete accident / incident reports in a timely manner, following the chain of command have the report signed and provide a copy to the parent on the day of the incident.
  • Support and demonstrate discipline practices in accordance with the YMCA policies and KDHE regulations.
  • Maintain professionalism

  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Follow program dress code.
  • Maintain appropriate attendance.
  • Maintain eye contact and smile at parents, children, and staff during all communications.
  • Maintain confidentiality on a strict need to know bases with parents, staff, outside agencies, and the general community.
  • Plan and complete in-service hours as required by KDHE and as requested by Teacher / Director.
  • Meet and / or exceed all KDHE regulations and CACFP guidelines in relation to programming for children birth to six.
  • Represent the YMCA well to all who come into contact with you and your program.
  • Take concerns and complaints directly to the Teacher / Director, thus eliminating unnecessary negativity and misunderstandings.
  • DO ANYTHING DEEMED NECESSARY TO MAKE THE CENTER FUNCTION IN AN EFFICIENT AND APPROPRIATE MANNER
  • EFFECT ON END RESULT :

    When a teacher does a quality job, the children will feel positive about themselves and look forward to coming to the Early Learning Center.

    Requirements

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

  • Minimum age 18 years of age and high school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months' experience in a licensed child care facility
  • Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Signs and Symptoms etc. certification or acquire within 30 days of hire
  • Have record of negative TB Screen and Physical within the last 6 months
  • Meet all Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Regulations
  • 12 hours of observations (5 of 2½ hours each) in a licensed facility with children of the same age as enrolled in the facility that the teacher will be working in.
  • Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  • PREFERRED NAEYC QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Training and education in a professional program, BA, AA, Child Development Associate credential (CDA), in education or 12 college credits in ECE, Program Directors Approval (PDA) for up to 24 children
  • One year experience in a licensed child care facility
  • PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs
  • Must be able to bend and squat repetitively
  • Must be able to stand / walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to perform light physical activity
  • Maintain a positive attitude and make the environment an encouraging experience for all
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times
