Under the supervision of the Aquatic Director, the Assistant Swim Instructor will assist in providing aquatic instruction using guidelines of the YMCA Youth Swim Lessons (YSL) to
individuals enrolled in swim lessons and promote the general safety of all swimmers.
Education/Experience Requirements:
1. Minimum age 16
Physical/Mental Requirements:
1. Must be able to frequently perform the following physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop,
kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and carry up to
35 pounds, and communicate verbally
2. Ability to demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, and the desire to work
with all ages, especially children
3. Must be able to visually see all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility
4. Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals
5. Must possess ability to remain alert and maintain concentration for long periods of time to ensure
safety of participants
6. Must possess ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
7. Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision
8. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent
manner
9. Must maintain a neat and professional appearance
Job Requirements:
1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
3. Complete BLS/AED, First Aid, O2, and YSL in accordance with Conditions of Employment
4. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
5. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch
