Responsibilities:
- Attend to member relations by building relationships, attending to needs, and providing excellent customer service.
- Conduct group exercise classes according to YMCA Program Quality Guidelines and specific class formats.
- Teach classes to various fitness levels, modifying choreography to meet multiple abilities.
- Expand knowledge by attending Continuing Education courses in the health and fitness industry as required by certification.
- Supervise class participants and activities to ensure safety and report any irregularities to supervisor.
- Maintain active interest in branch programs and share information with members and community.
- Represent the YMCA professionally.
- Work as a team member, assisting fellow staff when necessary.
- Be available to all members, sharing knowledge and being a resource for sound health and fitness information.
- Maintain cleanliness of studio/exercise classroom and equipment.
- Follow YMCA emergency procedures and maintain good attendance.
Requirements:
- Provide quality experiences for everyone, including health seekers, members, participants, internal customers, and vendors.
- Treat everyone with courtesy, respect, and consideration.
Qualifications:
- Possess current CPR/AED certification and Standard First Aid.
- Complete required pre-hire training: Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y, Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health and Wellness, Group Exercise at the Y, and Foundations of Group Exercise at the Y.
- Hold certifications for taught class formats, such as Les Mills Programs, Silver Sneakers Instructors, Zumba Gold and/or Silver n Fit Training, TRX Instructors, and Group Cycle Instructors.
Post-Hire Requirements:
- Attend continuing education courses (CEC's) to renew instructor certification.
- Attend Powerful Teaching Essentials within 6 months of hire.
- Complete YMCA of Greater Rochester New Employee Orientation Parts I & II within the first 60 days of hire.
- Darkness to Light training completed within 60 days of hire.
Physical Requirements:
- Bend and stoop occasionally.
- Lift at least 15 pounds occasionally.
