General Function:
Under the direction of Building Service Manager, and periodic functional direction of management staff, the Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for maintenance, building set ups and custodian tasks as assigned. Principally working hours: 29 hour regular part-time position with applicable benefits described in the YMCA Personnel Policy
Know How:
- High school degree or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of and prior experience in electrical and/or plumbing.
- Basic Mechanical knowledge
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledge of basic custodial tasks.
- Good driving record. Snow plowing experience helpful.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to make good decisions related to repair

Qualifications
Principal Activities:
- Responsible for maintaining building cleanliness on Saturday and Sundays.
- Check pool chemistry and temperatures and maintain water levels. Maintain chlorine tanks, CO2 and muriatic acid.
- Perform preventative maintenance on wellness equipment and basic repair as needed.
- Replace burned out lights/and or ballast - sometimes at heights of 20 feet.
- Clean up of accidental spills and messes. Spot cleaning various areas as assigned.
- Touch up cleaning of locker rooms including shower areas, sinks and toilets
- Refill shower soaps and check lotion
- Clean up and set up meeting rooms as needed to service rental groups.
- Plow snow and spread ice melt in parking lot with truck, tractor (salt bags 50#). Hand shovel when necessary.
- Responsible for daily maintenance of laundry equipment. Assist MSD with laundry duties if requested.
- Maintain grounds, i.e. mow grass and trim shrubs as assigned. Maintain clean litter free parking lot
- Troubleshoot and perform minor plumbing & electrical repairs.
- Respond to code calls as outlined in Emergency Manual.
- Respond to HVAC issues and facilitate response to problem with supervisors and contractor.
- Regular touchup Painting projects as assigned.
- Report dangerous safety problems to supervisor.
- Keep roof area clean and drains clear.
